How fast do you drive

Curious how fast you drive while pulling your trailer? I think I remember reading to stay between 60-65mph? My husband wants to go 70mph and our TV can do it but I don't want to blow a tire....

In my younger and more naïve days, I would drive 70-75. Now, I set the cruise control at 65 and that's it. Most trailer tires are not rated for speeds above 65.

It depends on the tire, but most are rated for 65 max. If the tires are rated higher and he doesn't mind the hit in gas mileage, ok. Having said that, most people I've talked to that run that fast totally ignore or are oblivious to either speed rating or tire pressure. These are the guys that blow tires regularly and blame it on "China bombs"..never mind that they were rolling 75 mph and 10 lbs under inflated.

I try for 55 to 60 weather conditions and road permitting. I stay out of the "fast lane" and try for a max of 300 miles a day. . . this is supposed to be a fun activity. TV is a 2014 Tundra 5.7

What's the hurry? BTW most ST tires have a max speed rating of 65mph, exceeding that is asking for trouble. I like to keep my speed to 55-60mph (or less). There is no shame in letting traffic pass you up. I've caught myself going 70 and then I say "whoa" slow it down. 70mph isn't going to get to you destination faster if you are sitting on the side of the road with a blowout. Speed and improper inflation is the biggest cause of blowouts.

Our truck and trailer likes to roll about 62 mph. It would go faster but I have 7 plus tons of inertia when hooked up. Why push it?
Our 6 speed is in 5 th gear at about 2500rpm. Just feels right.
On big Hills drop to 50mph but still rolling much faster than big heavy trucks.

Now that is one post with a lot of false assumptions and little facts. If you want to buy tires that are only rated for 65 and drive slower that is fine. But that doesn't make those of us that safely drive a little faster idiots.

OP... there are a lot of threads dealing with this already. Hopefully we don't have to keep beating this poor horse.

My happy spot is 70 since i upgraded to commercial rated tires, i wouldn't do that on stock junk.

I keep our Sunseeker at a steady 65 when on I-75 here in Michigan. Although it seems like the majority of the RVers run about that speed, I pass a few running 60 but I have been passed many a time by trucks pulling trailers and fifth wheelers doing near 80.

I can tell you one thing though, when I start nearing 70 or a bit over, the BOSS tells me to SLOW DOWN, and I learned a long time ago that saying "YES HONEY" is a mans only option if he wants to stay happily married.

No faster than the speed my trailer tires are rated for - 65 mph. I usually stay at or below 100 km/h, which is 62 mph. I would rather be in the slow lane being passed than in the fast lane or passing lane.

60-65mph or slower if conditions warrant. I am more worried about being able to stop or swerve to miss a something. At 70 mph your reaction/braking distances are getting pretty long and with the weight of the trailer you may not be able to stop in time once you spot it. Also as has been pointed out the ST tires are typically rated to 65 mph max.

We have original ST tires. We go 55...sometimes we get it to 60 downhill. I'm always aware of the heavily loaded six camper tires and use a 507 TST setup to watch 'em. Very satisfied with system and we travel with hi confidence that we'll likely catch a concern before it manifests to a detonation.

Yes, we are consistently the slowest vehicle on the road...doesn't bother us a bit.

I cruise at 70-75 when conditions allow. I let traffic and weather set my pace.

I was getting ready to 2x raspivey's comment when I saw yours. No false assumptions at all...pretty straight forward and sensible. I didn't see where he called anyone an idiot...as a matter of fact: "If the tires are rated higher and he doesn't mind the hit in gas mileage, ok."

Like raspivey, it gets old really quick when the "china bomb" phrase is used to excuse improper maintenance and operation.

65 seems good to me. Although it was 60 this past trip due to no where to get water or to dump after where we were. I could fee the extra weight of the water tank being full, slowed down a bit and it was smooth sailing.

My cousin left the same time as me with out towing something, he took back roads where as i took the highway. i got there about 5 minutes after him. We opened our first cold ones together

slow and steady wins the race... i have to many important family members in the car to need to rush

i did almost get killed by a guy with a huge trailer way over his truck limits, flew by me and i swear i saw sparks from the hitch dragging on the road
