Unhappy Hybrid Beds - Uncomfortable

We have a 2015 Shamrock 21SS. This is our 2nd season with it. Bought in Jan 2016 as a left over at a show. The bed is so uncomfortable . I even purchased a 2" memory foam mattress topper and I still feel the springs stabbing me in the hip. I have a bad back as well. I sleep on the side where the bed folds. I wake up feeling worse than when I slept on an air mattress when tent camping. So...has anyone replaced their beds? How did you make them more comfortable? The heated mattress comes in handy during colder months, but I have to take the topper off. It say not to have any topper when using the heating elements. Please give me your suggestions.

We have a heavy 3" gel/foam topper on ours. It's very comfortable.

We use our heated mattress with the topper and have had no issues. The heat transfers through the gel nicely.

We have a 21ss as well but have not replaced or added to the beds. Can I suggest you try a thicker mattress under the heated on that come with the camper?
I have wondered about the same as the coils are a bit rough.
I know it would mean taking it all out for closing up and traveling, but may be worth a try.
I am curious if anyone else has done the same

You can use the topper with the heated mattresses.

As long as the topper is not totally latex foam, or a dense foam use of the heating elements will work, and they work AMAZING if you have a gel infused foam. It transfers heat better than just the original mattress this way.

My wife and I found Loungeables Versamat at Costco and two of them work very well under the factory mattress. There are several good things about this mat, each one folds into three sections and has a zipper bag that it goes in for easy storage. They are also a perfect fit in the bunk end and the two of them are a little bit longer and wider than the mattress. Another thing we found that helps is to fold a blanket and put it under the small section of the mattress that folds because the mattress is somewhat thinner along the section of the mattress.

A neighbor gave us a couple of larger Thermarest inflatable mattresses. Makes the one we sleep on much more comfortable but it still needs a little more improvement where the mattress folds over. That is where I sleep most of the time.

Good luck.

We replaced the mattress with an Aerobed in our 21SS. We have a 3" mattress topper in our 23IKSS, it's tolerable.

We have the Roo 21dk and use 2" foam pads with a mattress pad on top of it then just make the beds with sheets and blanket. The heat comes through just fine and is nice and cozy.

Orig equip camper mattresses are horrible, including the better TTs like my Apex Mine is in its bag in the basement, need to put it on Craigslist. Regular mattresses can be heavy and challenge to fit in. I replaced the orig mattress with a Perfect Comfort mattress. Now I just dial in what I want. Cost some $$ but without good sleep the whole day can be ruined.

We're discussing hybrid mattresses, as the thread title says, not regular mattresses.

Hybrid mattresses have to fold in half.
Regular mattresses won't work in a hybrid.

We use 2 inch gel infused memory foam and I've never slept better, can't feel where the mattress split is either.

What brand do you have? Do you leave it on the bed or do you store each time? Thx!

That's what we got also. One also fits on the dinette nicely as well. We had bought a memory foam topper that actually cost more than 2 of the folding ones. It was stupid heavy and wanted to tear when you moved it so that works well on our home bed, but the costco folding foam is better for the camper.

Our 3" gel/foam topper. (might actually be 4") is also "stupid heavy", but it's super comfortable. Wife is not able to move it by herself. We'll look into the Costco ones you mentioned. Do they provide close to the same Ievel of comfort as your heavier one?
