I choose the Roo

Hey Gang,

First, thank you so much for all the help you have provided on this site. I have been reading as much as possible for a couple of weeks now.

Looks like I'm in the market for a Roo. Was looking at the 18 but I'd kick myself the instant I wanted more room. I think I'm going towards the 233s. I was worried if my 2015 King Ranch 150 would pull it, but I believe I've settled that.

So, I'm off to the 'mini' RV show here in Tampa. They only have one they are showing. I haven't found a lot around here in inventory. We have a huge show in mid Jan so I may have to wait until then. Hard to know what a good price is when you can't really compare!

oh yeah, Tent, pop up and now the Roo. I'm so excited I need to contain myself.

If I have to order one, and idea how long they take?

Thanks and I'm hoping to contribute soon!!!

Billy

From a Roo 18 to a 233s is a big upgrade......Do you have a big family and have the need for three beds!

Not sure why you haven't asked about prices yet but many of us have gotten quotes from RVW and RVDirect for comparison and to use with negotiating with other dealers.
It's mentioned all the time here.

Other Internet dealers like Couch's also will give you quotes.

Not rude, just surprised that after all the reading you did, you didn't see any references to RVW or RVDirect for Roo prices.

No need to tread lightly and hope you didn't take it that way.

I could tell you what I paid for my new 2007 Roo 23SS but that was 10 year ago.
So don't think what I paid would help.

I can't remember if it was $21.8K or $22.8K on an IKSS with Saphire package all options plus Trailer cover.

Thanks much. I did see reference to RVW and have one of their quotes, but I also read where they can go lower than their first price. I am planning on using that as my backup offer unless it can be beat. I just wasn't sure how much haggling can be done on their number. Sigh, this is the fun part right?

Rarely will they go lower.
If they do, it's not by much.
Same thing goes for RVDirect.
They seem to be more willing to haggle when competing against each other.

I paid 20k for my 2015 23ikss, but that was nearly 3 years ago. I think the prices have gone up 2...3 k since then.
I do suggest you upgrade to the 15k ac due to where you live. I'm in Indiana and the standard 13.5 works well here but in Florida I'd go bigger.
Another suggestion is to look for a dealer that sells Shamrock. You can play one against the other for pricing and also compare the service depts in each store.
We shopped several competing dealers before buying ours.
Good luck shopping...exciting times.

RVDirect sells the Roo and the Shamrock.
I assume that they sell both at the same price but you never know.

Wana rv in northern Indiana has a 233s on their website for 21.9k
Tri County rv in central Indiana has one for 21.2k
Not sure about the level of equipment on each.
Nice little roadtrip to pick one up.

IMO if you pay more than 21K you left something on the table. I have tried the wholesalers multiple times and was able to beat them by a fair amount every time at a "regular" dealer.

Paid 20.7 K all inclusive, taxes, registration, all of it, last April for an ordered 2017 23WS. I could have bought an in stock 2017 23IKSS at the time for the same deal. Both had most of the options including slide toppers. They did not have heated tanks, thermo pane glass, or SS appliances but had everything else. Dealer was in western PA. RVW was a solid 1K higher, not including tax or registration and that was if I accepted their financing. I gave them last chance, they were silent.

Good luck.

Great info. Thank you. I received a couple quotes via email and talked shop with the reps at the show today. They said the price on the RVW does not include freight charge. I am going to call them tomorrow to verify. While at show I went through all the options and the only things I didn't get are stainless steel, power jack, free standing table and toppers. He said this out the door price would be 22,500. Knowing that, I've got some more calls to make.

He also said that my 2015 F150 King Ranch 4x4 with max tow, EB 3.5 engine will probably not need a WDH. He suggested driving it first and see how it handles. Dunno on that.

man was it nice being in the thing even if it was at a show. I see many good times ahead.... eventually.
Thanks again gang. Awesome site.

You will get a lot of replies on the no wdh thing. I pull a 23ikss ( a slightly heavier unit) with a Ram 1500 5.7 hemi. (a heavier truck with more power) I wouldn't even consider towing without a wdh and sway control. If you had a f250, maybe.

Order it with the toppers. WAY cheaper than adding them later and you'll want them.

Unless you requested it shipped to you, freight should be in the quote.

Yes, I'd feel better with a WDH too. Also... HA! I thought the slide toppers were overpriced versions of PUG's! Yes, must have toppers. I'm showing just how green I am.

Another item to get is the power tongue jack. Makes it way easier to hook up the sway bars.

Here is our top priority options after we have camped 22 days and rode 6000 miles with our Roo:
The Roos have a heavy tongue (at least mine has) so unless you will tow it with a 1 ton dually, it's my opinion you will need a WD system.
A WD system is way easier to deal with a power tongue jack, I would not skip that.
I really don't know why a slide topper is an option. It should be standard.
It's one less thing you need to worry about when packing to come home.
We are from Indiana but we camp a lot in Florida so the 15K and the Maxx air vents are a must for us.
We haven't camp too much in the cold so far but it was good to have the heated mattress when we needed them.
We have used the outside grill only once so far but that is because we barbecue only once so far!
I'm a hardcore wood charcoal barbecue guy but the convenience of the gas by the camper is making me open an exception.
We have 3 kids so the HAB option is worth every single penny for us.

Bottom line is:
For us, the only options we don't care too much are the ones related to appearance which we end up getting anyway.....
