Hey everyone.
I've been searching on here for awhile and haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. I'm going to be installing a hitch on the rear of my 233s for the purpose of a bike rack. (Not to the bumper). Has anyone done this here and does anyone have any drawings or pictures. I have a good idea of what to do. Just wanted to see everyone's ideas. It will be installed by a certified welder. Thanks in advance.
Here's what my dealer's certified welder put on the back of my Roo 19. He put something similar on my Mini-Lite, but I don't have any pics or sketches at the moment. I've also attached a sketch of the hitch.
That's great. Thanks so much. My only issue is my bumper is installed on the lower half of the i beam. I like that design but would have to modify a bit. What did the dealer end up charging if you don't mind my asking.

"Looking at the pictures for the Surveyor Expandables it looks like the rear bumper doesn't stick out far enough to use the Lippert fold down bike rack.
I sent an email to Forest River asking if one could be added to the frame (Lippert as well as others make these) and this was their reply:
"You are more than welcome to make any modifications you want, however, Forest River cannot stand behind the modifications nor can we warranty them. Any damages caused by a modification can void the warranty on that part of the travel trailer."

Roo/Shamrock owners have gotten the same response, from the factory, regarding doing what you want to do.
many owners choose to go ahead and do what you want to do but just wanted you to know what the factory says, regarding how it may affect your warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I have thought about that at depth. I don't think i have warranty left on my unit anyway so any damages that happen will be on me anyway. Either way it would only void the warranty on that part of the frame and only if they can prove it was from my mods. Thanks for the concern and heads up.
crash. Don't think they would have to prove anything. They stated any modification to a part would void the warranty on that part.Period. Not a big deal though we generally don't start on upgrades before that warranty ends.

If I recall correctly the dealer charged me $600. You can probably do better at a private welding place.

The one on my Mini Lite is now 1 year old, no issues. Most of our warranties are essentially wasted away in the storage lot. After a summer on the road and a winter in storage, your warranty on most stuff is gone.

One issue was a completely new front bunk door replacement. And that fell under the $100 2nd year FR factory warranty.
we had the warranty work done in the winter, so we got free storage, along with getting things fixed.

Only because you bought the 2nd yr warranty.
Sorry to hear you've had "numerous" warranty issues. I've had 3 TT's and I've never bought an extended warranty and I've never had an issue that would have been covered if I had. Actually, never really have had any issues that would have qualified for a warranty unless they'd given me a 20 yr warranty.
Here's what the hitch on my Mini-Lite looks like. Much simpler design.
Pic 1: you can see the 4" bumper and the 3 x 1-1/2" C-channel they installed behind it.
Pic 2: you can see the receiver tube welded to the bottom of the 4" bumper and the bottom of C-channel
Pic 3: You can see where the C-channel and the 1 x 2 box beam are welded to the web of the frame rail. Just to the left of the 1 x 2 box beam is the angle iron supporting the black tank.
Pic 4: shows the receiver tube welded to the 1 x 2 box beam
Pic 5: Similar to Pic 2, receiver welded to bottom of C-channel and bumper
Pic 6: Shows back side of the C-channel welded to the frame rail. Bumper is to the left behind the C-channel

Sounds like a pretty good price, especially for Canada.
I dropped the trailer off today at the welding shop. It's only going to be $150. I'm going with what you did on your mini lite. But using 2x2 instead of c channel. Thanks everyone for your insight. [emoji106]
P.s. While I was there a guy pulled up with a 5th wheel pulling a b train. A 17' aluminum fishing boat. He was using a 4" rv bumper hitch. The reason he was there was to get the bumper reinforced. He wasn't even concerned with getting a proper hitch put on. He even said that his last bumper almost broke off. Some people are crazy.
A few days ago I sad a Chevyy 3500 pulling a big Montana pulling a car on a tandem axle trailer.
It was not the first time I have seen that but I have to wonder why.

Hello all,
this is my first post so it goes without saying that I've never tried to post a picture.............well here goes the first shot. If it post successfully, I'll post more and describe what I've done.
Ok seems the file attached, so here we go. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I won't bore ya'll with all those words. May be a couple of additional post coming, as I don't see the detail of the pictures until I hit the "submit reply" button.
