Ladder Modification

Has anyone modified their Roo to add a ladder? Man I was got on the roof this weekend to check a few items and it was brutal!

Thinking about doing a mod like this (pic attached - ladder) but am concerned the weight of someone climbing on the side will do damage....

I often thought of adding a similar ladder but like you, had the same concern and worries about the weight and making holes. I then decided to just get an eight foot telescopic ladder for $79.00 on ebay store.

i wouldn't risk doing that kind of mod on a hybrid.
they have minimal aluminum wall framing.

If it don't have a ladder when new it might not have support blocks behind the wall to support it.

We bought a 7' collapsible ladder that fits into a white fence post that my husband installed under the trailer attached to the frame. He found it on Amazon. We like it because its a nice, tall, sturdy ladder that easily stores under the trailer.

That sounds like an awesome idea.. Do you have any pics of the mod? Thanks for sharing that idea!

Here's a couple pics of the one I made for my sewer hose (see bottom 2 pics in Post #3). Same principle for the ladder, you just don't need the rain gutter inside. Or add two, one for the ladder and one for the sewer hose.

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ner-61360.html

I attached my mine by using SS bolts and fender washers that clamp it to the bottom web of the frame. Others have actually drilled holes in their frame. (2 bolts/washers on each side of the web, so 4 on each end of the post.) Some have attached it at the back by the bumper with clamps or cable ties. There are a number of ways to do the end caps, too. Do a search for "fence post" and you'll find lots of ways to do it.

The hardest thing seems to be finding the fence post at HD. You may have to order one on-line.

We used a beam clamp, long piece of all thread, and a piece of aluminum c-channel under the fence post. I can post a pic in a few hours oncr once we get to Myrtle Beach!! =)

I bought the 6' single-sided version of the same ladder on Amazon. The price was about half that of the 7' double-sided. I wouldn't be confident using it a lot in the middle of a room but for working next to the trailer and using the trailer wall for stability, it's fine.

Besides which, I don't need something tall enough to go straight onto the roof. I can use it to get onto the bunk, from where I can then use it to get onto the roof. I've done that, it works, and feels stable enough to be safe.

I used your idea of the screen door spring through a screw to permanently attach the cap to the post.

I used a different approach for hanging it. A lot of people swear off drilling the frame but Forest River seems to have no qualms about it, so neither did I.

I bent 4" inside corner L brackets up on one end (of each) to form a hook. They're bent about 45 degrees, enough to prevent something from slipping off the end. I used self-tapping screws to attach those to the frame, 2 on each side, facing out, about as wide as the post.

I temporarily secured the fence post to the L brackets with a big zip tie on each end. That was to make it easier to manage and adjust. After being suspended correctly, I used 7" steel band clamps to secure it in place.

Having done that I determined the movable end with the screw eye protrudes more than I'd like. I plan to loosen the band clamps, slide that end in farther, then cut off the opposite end to match. The opposite end cap is screw in place with a couple of flush wood screws. It will be easy to unscrew those, chop a few inches off the end, and screw it back.
