Leaky 183

I am new to this forum, but have owned my Roo 183 for ~ 18 months. When I was winterizing this fall I noticed that the side bed has leaking. I contacted Forest River and was told that ~ 18 months was what I could expect for a length of life for a bed seal. Has anyone else had issues with their bed seals on newer models?

bh183, i moved your post to the Roo section here at FRF.
there are many posts on your issue. read thru the posts here and on the Shamrock section, since the Shamrock is a twin of the Roo.

who did you contact at FR, because i've never heard that statement about seal life being 18 months.
i've had my Roo for nearly 5 years and my seals are still good.

leaks can be caused by a number of reasons. canvas caught in seals when closing up, rain leaking thru the clearance lights above the bunk door, bad seals are a few.

year of your 183 and pics would help.
did you purchase the 2nd year of the FR warranty?

Sorry to hear about the leak. I also have not heard of an 18-month life expectancy for the seals.

Looking in the Roo owner's manual it states to clean the seals (but doesn't say with what). What does everyone use to clean the white seals on the outside of the bed ends to keep them pliable?

One other thought I had when looking at the sealing mechanism for the latches, has anyone ever replaced the black pads on the locking mechanism (the pads that press against the beds as you close the bed to lock)? They appear to be permanently depressed and maybe one reason I am not getting a tight seal on the top.

I would think you could use any firm rubber pad with an adhesive from Lowes.

You could try calling Forest River at (574) 642-2640 and ask for the Parts Department or call Fastek directly at 1-800-837-2505. The bar lock assembly is part #65006 for reference.

Let us know what you do. You reminded me I need to reattach one on mine that is slipping off.

bh183, you haven't said if you have the 2nd year warranty or not, nor have you said what year the 183 is.

my '07 Roo does not have white seals, just the black rubber seals around the bunk door's edges.

can you provide pics of what you're talking about?
