Led strip under awning

Our Shamrock 183 2014 model has about 3/4 if the LEDs out under the awning. Dealer claims they have to remove the awning to replace em. Does that sound right? It looks to me like they could just unscrew it and replace it It's a Dometic power awning.

Same issue on mine. I don't think they're as water tight as they should be. I haven't looked really closely, but I don't believe that awning has to come off. The replacements you can get for about $10 off of amazon or ebay are just attached with adhesive.

Ok. The dealer has a campground I was going to this weekend and I tried to get them to do the warranty on site but they claimed the awning gotta come off and the strip had to be ordered from Dometic. Guess I'll wait till the seasons over and take it to em. I just hate to pay for something and do it myself if it's under warranty:-)

I think the weak point of those LED strips is the wiring between them. Are they out in a pattern, or do they seem to be random?

Mine are random-ish. A few in a row here and there, a couple of singles. I did notice that mine had water running from the roof over the strip during some rain with the awning retracted. I haven't had time to investigate, but it looks like if the gutter overflows for some reason (needs to be cleaned out) then water can run between the awning and the trailer. Might be coming around the awning ends and running down the length of the awning underneath. It doesn't do it when the awning is extended. The water was running all over the LED strip. I'm wondering if the strips they use aren't very waterproof as they're located in a sheltered area and getting soaked every once in a while is what's causing them to go out.

Funny...we noticed that 1/3 of our strip died this past weekend. Dealer is requesting the info from the strip to start the warranty process. Will inquire what is involved in changing them

Ours are mostly all going dim, with about 4 really bright. It also is very "wavy", like adhesive coming off. When I inspected it, it sure looked like it was attached behind the awning's edge.

The problem is, my dealer will keep the unit for about 2 months while they order parts.

Or... I can fix it myself in a couple hours and install a fancy LED strip with remote for about $20 - $30.

Which do you think I'll be doing???

After our camper was hit by lightning about half the LEDs were out, most of the rest were dim and several were still lit as normal. It was very odd...

We replaced our LED's with a warm white/color strip. The LED's that come with it were just too bright...felt like standing under fluorescent lighting and having the life sucked out of us!! My dh did it and there was no need to remove the awning or unscrew anything. We also have the power awning.

You do not have to remove the awning to change out the LED lights. About half of the lights were out on mine also and the dealer said that they needed to have the camper for a few days to change out the LED strip. I asked them if I could have the part and change it out myself and they had no problem with that. I just had to return the faulty LED strip back to the dealer. The LED strip just pulls out/slides into the holder under the awning. Just cut the two wires, pull out the old LED strip, reconect the wires from your new LED strip and slide it back into the holder. Took me about 10 minute to complete.

Was the replacement strip any better quality? A tech told me they are cheap and let water in is the reason for failure

We bought our replacement LED's from amazon. They were originally $60, but got them for $11!!! They are made to be used outdoors. Trying them at the house they are already way better. They still turn on at the control panel, but come with a remote control so we can control the brightness, colored LED's or just warm white on or a combo of both. Just like erikmpower, these slid right into the holder and installed in minutes.

Can you give us the name or brand that you bought? There are a lot of different ones out there and it sounds like you got good ones at a great price.

Yes, please! I like the idea of those lights, but hate the bright bluish light. Warm white and dimable is enough to encourage me to change them out.

SUPERNIGHT 16.4ft 5050 Waterproof 300leds RGBWW. They were actually originally $80 and we got them for $14.... we bought a couple different LED strips at the time and I got them confused =) I think our awning is a Dometic. We have a 2014 Roo 21DK. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures and the camper is currently in our storage lot. We'll have it next week when we go to Bristol, so I can definitely take pics and post them then!! They are so much better then the blue/white lights that came with the camper!! Highly recommend!!

Yes these LEDs fit the track the original LEDs came in. Our LEDs were not glued in so they came out in 2 mins. I just mounted the ir controller in the awning arms and just wired it to the existing 12v power for the old leds. Just need to water proof the controller box better. But they work and look great. Love the warm white and color at the same time. Much more inviting color.
