Lippert Frameless window

I have one of the Lippert frameless windows on my 2017 233s, the one just above the sofa. The crank has vibrated open on me a couple of times while traveling allowing the window to flap open. I was poking around out there the other day and noticed the window was not shut again. The crank mechanism appears to be broke, wont put any tension on window to close it. I stumbled across this thread, does anyone know if the part numbers on the first post of this thread are Lipperts part numbers for this part or was it something specific to the dealership they bought it from?

Frameless Window fixed- Rockwood Mini-Lite 1809S

I called Camping World we have here in town yesterday to see if they could order it for me and they were not showing anything matching those part numbers. They're supposed to contact Lippert today and get back to me. Im not thrilled with the idea of doing a warranty claim. The dealership I bought the camper from must assume all its costumers are morons and will not order and ship anything that would allow me to do the work myself. At least not with warranty claims. They want me to bring it in for every little issue so they can do the work. Problem is, they're a couple hrs away and after you figure the fuel for 2 round trips towing, I can probably buy several of these cranks. And who knows when they could actually get me in.

I must be a flaw in the design...I was driving on a windy day (I'm thinking the wind kept getting under it) and I noticed it(the window panel) flapping in the breeze...the metal the crank works with broke apart...it happened going on vacation..I taped the window closed and I was able to get to my dealer to have it fixed on the way home...it looks like it probably will happen again...I would like to see about changing it to be like the window on the slide out ...I'll check my paperwork for the parts number...I wanted to order it too rather than stopping at the dealer..but it worked out for me anyway

Page Title -Kinro windows and replacement parts

I could never correlate the dealer part numbers in my thread with the Kinro part numbers.

The numbers in my thread were Rockwood dealer part numbers and on the service order/receipt.

More info:
http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/f228/frame-less-window-opening-on-its-own-121576.html

I have been using a plastic clamp on the window handle even though it was repaired, kind of a belt and suspenders thing. Don't want it to flap and shatter if the new mechanism fails. Its odd that it has only been that one window, some forum posters feel its a vent open versus vent closed thing while towing. I have not been able to verify this.

Unfortunately, camping world is about my only option. They are the only Forrest River dealer here in town. The next closest is the dealer I bought from which is about 2 hrs away. Problem is, I work 6-7 days a week from Christmas until about Memorial day. Im leaving a week before Memorial day to take the boy on a fishing trip to Minnesota and wanted it repaired by then. As I stated earlier, my dealer will insist on me bringing the unit in to them for warranty work. I cant get it there before they close if I leave right after work. Id have to take time off to get it there and again to pick it up, plus the cost of fuel Id be out several hundred dollars. I was just hopping to spend $50-100 bucks on the part and put it in myself.
Camping World did get back to me and said Lippert had no record of those part numbers so the ones I referenced from the other thread must be wrong, or dealer part numbers. I gave them some info on the unit. They were supposed to do some digging and get back to me but so far I haven't heard anything. So, in the mean time I decided to drill out the rivets and see if there was something I could do with it. Its already broke, cant break it more.

This is the mechanism. Its a 2 piece pot metal body that's held together with 3 alignment pins and a couple of interference fit dowel pins that go through the crank arms and are pressed to hold it together. The left dowel pin on mine broke. This left the crank arm to float around in the housing freely, it also caused the housing to flex open when cranking it enough to let the worm gear slip past the teeth on the crank arms.

So what I did was drill out the broken dowel pin and replaced it with a 8-32 bolt and nut. This seemed to work well, the mechanism appeared to work as it was supposed to. So then, I decided to drill the other one out as well and replace it with a bolt. It was probably just a matter of time before that one broke too. Then I got a little carried away and drilled out the alignment pins and tapped the holes out to accept a 6-32 bolt. I assembled everything with plenty of Loctite. I also threw some fresh grease on the worm and crank arm teeth.

After I ground down the bolt studs I touched it up with a little black paint to hide the repair. The mechanism feels tighter than it ever did, and works perfectly.

I installed it with SS bolts and nuts instead of rivets. I'll try it out next week on the way to Minnesota. As long as it doesn't open up on me on the way there, im going to call it a win.
