Picking up the new Roo in 20 days and wanted to ask what you all recommend as far as a mattress topper. How thick can you go and still close the bunk ends correctly?

On a side note: the kids are so excited that we had to create a "camper countdown" to answer the daily question - "How long until we pick up our Roo?"

Go as thick as you find comfortable. Whatever mattress pad you put on will need to be removed before you close up the bunk. We roll our 2" foam topper and store it on the couch during travel/storage.

I use a 2" topper, but I remove it before closing the bunk. I fold it and store it on the sofa.

We use the memory foam top on the larger end bunk and leave it there when popped in because the entire mattress rest against the slide. No harm no foul

Thanks! Does anyone take their mattress off and if so where do you store them? We have a two year old that will sleep with us while camping for now. Our hope is to put both the topper and the mattress inside a waterproof cover and be able to manage them as one unit in a 23IKSS. Any storage suggestions? If we did this for both bunk ends is there room to store both mattresses inside when closed up?

Thanks again for any insights!

Although we're Class A folks, we routinely have problems with getting bottom sheets to fit over deep mattresses with a topper. The previous owners of our rig put a bigger plywood base on the bed frame to allow use of a standard residential queen-size mattress.

We've found that even sheets specifically identified as being for deep mattresses are still a problem when you add a topper. A few years back, we got a 1.5" topper from Costco that we use on the S&B bed and that's a struggle to get the fitted sheet on the bed. Not sure if there are sheets out there that recognize the need to allow for a topper.

We've checked various catalogs and it seems that the only outfit still selling 1.5" thick toppers is Camping World. I guess we'll be shopping there soon.

We just bought a 4" mattress topper from walMart for a queen size bed for 129.00. We used it this weekend and my back doesn't hurt in the morning. We use the topper in the front bunk. When were finished with it we rolled it up and left it on the couch.

When we had our ROO we took the mattress out and used a coleman queen size air mattress. If you do this make sure you put a quilt under the air mattress to keep the cold from seeping up thru the air mattress.

Lindy: that is an excellent idea! Lightweight AND waterproof. I'll bet a space blanket beneath might work as well. Thanks!

we use the 4" / 2" memory foam on top of 2" high density foam / very comfy ~ we roll it up and leave it on the table area when traveling.

3" Gel Foam Topper from Costco

Perfect fit for the front bunk! 60x80 and a fitted sheet works perfectly.

We purchased this from costco for $129. Blue in color and has the gel added to the formula so it doesnt hold the heat a normal foam pad does.

We just spent 10 nights in the camper and neither one of us had any issues.
