minor catastrophe on 1st trip

Minor? Major? All I know is it has dampened, literally, the maiden voyage.

Less than 2 hours here, setting up, things were going too well. Suddenly a large pop and a flood! Apparently the contraption with the water filter broke off and flooded the camper.

So the campground owner is hands down the nicest guy. He came running over to help. It seems that the water pressure, which is not strong, is causing the filter holder to SPIN off the holder and flood!!! Wtf???!!!

He rigged some wrench to hold it in place for now. Used every towel we had to sop up the water. Now I'm worried about what damage the seeping water caused under the floor. We were right on top of it soaking it up. And the super nice owner gave me free laundry privileges to wash and dry all the towels.

Any ideas??? Did we break something or does it sound like a manufacturer defect??

That's part of the weirdness, pressure was fine, the regulator was on the low side.

Some of these filter housings take a trick to install properly. Do a search and you'll find some threads on it. A lot of folks have removed the filter entirely. They either replaced it with one that's outside or none at all.

Get a couple of Camco inline filters at Walmart.
Bypass and remove the one that blew out.

Get a WP regulator!

Yep, you're not alone. Others have posted here that there seems to be a gremlin in their RV unscrewing those filters. IIRC one guy said he sat and *watched* it unscrew itself.
