More Questions from a newbie

All I can think about right now is taking delivery of my new Roo 19 so I will probably be asking a few questions while I am looking out at the snow and thinking about camping.

So here goes another, what should I expect to get for water usage for 2 adults camping for a weekend. I have not had the luxury of running hot water while camping and I don't want to get my expectations too high. I have a 36 gallon tank in my Roo.

Congratulations on the new Roo, and welcome to the forum.

I gues I don't exactly understand your question. If you are camping with full hookups, you would have all the hot water you need...we have the same hot water heater in our rockwood that you'll have in your Roo 19. With 2 adults, we've never been in a situation where the water heater couldn't supply everything we needed for showers, dishes, etc.

It's a tough question to answer- if your in a full service campground, you'll have a "city water" connection and it's unlimited.

If you don't have a water hookup, then you're going off of what is in your tank.

For us- its me, my wife and 2 kids (one an infant), so there is a lot of bottle and baby paraphernalia washing (plush washing up from meals- pots, pans and drinking cups). We fill our 42 gallon gray almost every other day. I fully believe that we're on the very high side of use (as we have only camped with water hookups).

If you shower inside, take "navy showers" to minimize water use. Even that- my wife; daughter and I all have long flowing manes so we still use a lot of water. When the three of us shower, it's a full tank (or close to it).

Lots of water used for us. But again- I'm sure we're the higher extreme.

I camp at state parks that have electricity but not water. So what I bring is what I have for the weekend. So its not hot water but water in general.

If you fill your tank before you get into your site, you're pump will pump whatever is in the tank. The MD state parks have water faucets surrounding the loop. So even if you run your tank dry, you can always refill your tank. I carry a 6 gallon jug in my pup, I'll likely carry it when I get my Roo in a couple of days.

It the pup and probably in the Roo, we will not do a lot of showering in it. We will continue to use the bath houses. Water lasts us quite a while.

first, 6 of the 36 gallons is in the water heater.
we almost always dry camp, so the two of us easily can get thru a weekend on the one full tank in our Roo.
but you need to take navy showers, if you choose to use it. and don't leave water running. be conservative with water usage.
we are former popup owners so we are used to conserving water.

I'm also staring out at the snow while daydreaming about camping in the Roo 19 I have on order! Congrats on your purchase. Can't help you with your question because I'm new to trailer camping myself. It will be a steep learning curve.
Campgrounds we've been to have pretty nice bathroom facilities, so I'm planning to still use them as much as possible. For me it's always been part of the camping experience. That may change as I get used to hookups and tank maintenance. I don't reallly know what's involved yet. We'll see!

We're a family of 5 so even a weekend for us means no showers in the camper. When at state parks, we only use the CG's facilities. The few times that I have camped alone, however, my water can last 4 days with a shower each day. But like bikendan said, they are Navy showers.

Agree with the thought that you bring along a fresh water container to refill from the pump as needed.

Family of seven for the weekend the tank is almost empty on Sunday, but that's with only me showing in camper, the kids potty breaks and hand washing, and washing dishes.

Do you leave hot water heater filled during the season or drain it after a weekend of camping and then fill it next time?

I drain mine unless I'm going camping the next weekend.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I rarely empty it.

In the pup, I would not empty between each trip. This was mainly so I would have enough weight on the hitch. Not sure if I will empty it in the Roo

I only empty if we're going on long trips to lighten the load, and I always drain the fresh water.

Dan,

How do you know what the condition of your anode is if you don't drain the water out? If the anode material is gone, the drain plug and the pipe attachment connections will corrode together and you won't be able to get them out.

We live full time in our RV and do wash all the time. Never once even with back to back showers did we not have enough hot water. You will be fine. We never winterize because we follow the nice weather, what a life. Enjoy your travels.

do they even have an anode rod left? i drain mine every fall, and let it air dry for a couple of days before reinstalling anode rod, replacing as needed. after that, its winterize and dream of spring.

our water conservation has increased since the kids no longer go with us, or they dont go as often. hard to get teenagers to grasp the idea of a navy shower. they dont like using cg facilities as some are just horrible, and they also hate running out of hot water. hey.. its only 6 gallons, it isnt going to last all day
