1. Tons of counter space. It is really deceptive but there is a ton of counter behind the stove and sink.
The wife says there is 3X the counter compaired our old camper
2. Large bathroom with a lot of counter/shelf space. Again, we never had enough.
wait till you find the wasted space
7. It feels like virtually no wasted space. It is very short and reasonably light yet has every box checked on what we wanted.
just wait....
I found 2 big enough for the grandson to hide in.
8. As the previous poster indicated it is very usable when turtled.
only turtled up in our old one twice, looking forward to trying this one..
I'm working on designs to access some of the extra space

Never. Just us - you'll find plenty of people who do. But traveling with kids, we usually aim to stop by 4-5:00 in the afternoon and let the kids swim while we make dinner. No Walmart stops for us. That works for lots of people - you can find plenty of threads on here about that, but we always find a cg close to the highway for long trips. Only takes a few extra minutes.
We have gone 2800 miles on one trip with the Roo, but we bought an RV to enjoy the trip - after all its vacation. So when we traded our popup (also with the dinette slide) for the Roo, we went for the 23IKSS. Great kitchen and living space, but not designed to turtle.

We've turtled a few times when we wanted to leave in the morning and knew it was going to rain overnight. Don't have to mess with wet canvas.

I haven't yet, but wouldn't, with kids. My plan to do so is only to allow traveling farther on a single day and getting on the road faster the next morning, to travel to a distant destination. With kids, I'd be like KMP44 and arrive earliy enough to give the kids something to look forward to. Otherwise, travel is an ordeal for them (and, therefore, for you) rather than fun.
Besides which, it would be hard to turtle in a 21DK with any kids older than preschool. There's only one available bed. Granted, the dinette bed is actually pretty large but it's not intended for the whole family.

It is a term made for hybrid trailers. This means that the bunk ends are left up/in for various reasons. It seems like a turtle in its shell. Hence the term ... 'turtling'.

Yep, it's a term unique to hybrids.
By turtling, your hybrid becomes like any smaller TT that uses the dinette for a bed.

Wikid1... I was about to ask what "turtling" was too. I can see some advantages when you just need to sleep and get going again in the morning, for those who do it would you still unhook and level the unit for the night? Or just climb in and get some sleep? I think personally I would only turtle if I was pulling over for the night to get to my destination

I haven't yet but, if I do, it would only be a brief overnight on a long haul. I wouldn't unhook anything, just climb out of the car and climb into bed. We'd probably make the bed in advance in anticipation of stopping just to sleep.

Once we arrived a day early and our reserved spot was occupied, We backed into an empty site, pulled up on a board for side to side, a few cranks on the jack and leveled with everything still hooked up, and dropped the back bed. the next morning within 5 minutes of the folks leaving, we were moving.
If we plan on turtling on a trip, the table bed would be made up and ready for when we stopped.

New 21DK
We have a long trip next year and doing overnight stops so I will just keep it connected to my Truck level as best I can with no blocks and put nose Jack down and Dinette and couch slide out on my 23IKSS and just sleep on the sofa couch. Fold up next morning get coffee on the way and just go. I figure a drive down to Florida will have 2 stops for sightseeing besides GF can not drive TV and Roo with her illness so I am the only driver and won't do more than 12 hours in a row too dangerous

Well looks like we decided on the 2015 21 DK !!! I will pick it up on Tuesday. I like the idea of leaving the trailer attached and dropping the rear bed. Is that called turtling in a half shell!

I don't know about your TV but we can stay hitched to our Durango, open the front bed, and still open the rear door on the Durango.
We're planning an overnight in a state park this summer as part of a long drive. We reserved a pull-through site for convenience. While we're not going to turtle, we're not going to unhitch, either. Just open the beds, slide-out, and awning.
We'll haul a little water with us, but not a full tank. Unless it's hot and the AC would help us sleep, I probably won't do any hookups, at all.

We have turtled several times in Walmart parking lots with our 21 RS ...left the slide in but unhooked the electric from TV because my understanding is the camper will draw electricity from the TV battery first, thus creating the possibility of depleting the TV battery due to "parasites" and other devices depleting voltage...

I installed a relay in the aux power to the trailer, with a switch on the dashboard. I just turn it off; don't have to unhook.

We are 100% campers and not travelers...I would expect travelers would turtle even more often.

On reason we went for the 23IKSS is when we don't want to put the ends out we can just unfold the couch and sleep on that, so much versatility with just about any model Roo 👍
