New Canvas Replacements

Just wanted to share my experience with replacing my bunk end tents on my Roo 23ss.

My current tents unfortunately were damaged by mice and needed replacing. I decided to add vinyl windows to all three bunk end windows.

I used Idaho Canvas Replacements to do the work.

Nice looking piece of work. I might need to followup with you as I just found some mice damage on my 233S.

If you don't mind, how much were they charging for the new canvas and windows?

do a search on mice, on any RV forum and you'll get tens of thousands of posts.
there is no "magic bullet". some say dryer sheets, some say peppermint oil and so on.

New Canvas Replacements

As Dan said, lots of different techniques. And, it is hit or miss with us. This is the first winter we've had a problem and we've had this trailer going on 5 years now. I even found mice bedding under the battery lid on top of one of my six volts.

In the past, we used mint oil-soaked cotton balls and it may have helped then. Hard to tell if that was effective back then as there was no control group to compare. I've also heard of people using moth balls and the dryer sheets, too.

Both of these seem to work good, no mice since we started using them

Idaho Canvas charged me $1,300 (included shipping). Talked to Lorin Rigby. That price is with screen & clear vinyl windows on all 3 windows on each bunk.

They do top quality work. Identical to original. It would have been about $900.00 w/o vinyl windows.

Sure like the option...well worth the extra cost!

Got other bids from Bear Creek Canvas ($725) & TJ Snuggles. Both would not add vinyl windows.

I think TJ snuggles makes the ends on our 2015 Roo 23IKSS? I have to look but remember the GF making a funny remark about it

I covet those vinyl windows. I do wish Forest River would offer that as an option. Or maybe even standard? Even if they only put it on the end, I'd be very happy.

Someone suggested that FR might not do that because the end panel is the fire escape. Okay, so why not put the vinyl on the side windows? At least it would let some light in an otherwise very dark cabin.

That is my understanding also. Was that $1,300 per bunk end? So are we talking $3,900 if one has a canvas slide out also.

Vin.

No hybrid manufacturer, not just FR, has ever had vinyl windows on their tent ends.

That sounds like a marketing opportunity to me.

When I look at the EXIT sign on the canvas of a pop up or HTT, it always appeared to me that the exit was thru the zipper and not the screening.

I suspect it is more of a condensation thing for the reason as to why they do not install vinyl on the bunk ends. FR actually changed the tenting on the side panels to canvas and not the typical coated tenting like all the other material.

The fire escape idea was someone else's. Condensation may be a reason. Perhaps it's not such an issue in popups because they have more breathable surface area?

Good job on the install.

How well do the vinyl windows fold and scrunch up when closing the end? Any risk of them creasing or splitting?
