New Guy with Stupid Question
We are going to pick up our new 21SS in a few days. Taking our old, seldom used, 29' Toy Box in for a trade in.
Dealer wants the refrigerator running when we bring it in. My plan was to start the fridge up at home using propane with fridge set to Auto). Then leaving propane on during the trip to the dealer. Have not pulled er in a few years and cant remember if that's the proper procedure. Figure with it on Auto, it'll switch over to tow vehicle electrical during transport. Went thru manual that came with the fridge and didn't find answer. Appreciate the help
Really looking forward to the new Roo.

Assuming it is a 2 way fridge, it either runs off of 110(120) or LP. When in auto it will try to detect 110, if not available it will attempt to light LP.
TV power will not "power" your fridge, it will still require LP to run. If you leave LP on and in auto it will still draw LP and run on LP while enroute to the dealer.

Plug trailer into electric at home. Put refrigerator on auto. Turn on gas and leave it on as you travel. Electric cools the refrigerator much faster then propane. Give yourself several hours.

If you haven't used the fridge for a couple of years, even a season, I'd try the fridge in the LP mode first while at home. This so you know it works on LP while traveling and you don't have a spider in the tubing keeping it from cooling.
Before I pull out of the driveway, I always check to make sure the LP works on the fridge. Just a little insurance so I don't get to my destination and find items melted in the freezer.

My experience is just the opposite. Ours cools much faster on propane.

Some RV refrigerators are 3 way.
12v - 110v AC - LP Gas
The more common is 2 way with an AUTO button that works off 110v AC or LP Gas.
Not knowing what yours is, I'd first try it on propane to see if it lights correctly.
Once determined it lights (and stays lit) on LP, I would try either of the other sources to be sure it will cool. The dealer is just wanting to to be sure it is a working unit.

Same for me.
In 40+ years of camping, all my absorption refrigerators worked better and cooled faster on LP.

As I said... SOME RV refrigerators ARE able to operate off of just 12v.
They have a 12v heating element that works similar to the 110v element.
Not a 'duh' moment at all.

Fridges with 12Volt power are usually just the small (2-3 cu ft) that come in popups.

Hope trip to dealer is not too long. It's risky to travel with the propane value open.

You know the RV battery has to be charged for the fridge to work, right?

Yes, I think the frig needs 12 volts to operate the gas flame control.

But I don't think you can use the 12 volts from the tow vehicle as the OP suggested he had planned.

Doesn't the 12 volts come from the TT?

Was just reading this post to pass the time...Wow, didn't know any of this stuff.. Thanks to all of you..
Used our NEW Road Yacht only twice, and already discovered the dealer we bought it from in Picayune, Ms. will not take responsibility for anything, not even tightening the ball on the receiver hitch they sold me !!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, there is a learning curve to this camping stuff..
