New IKSS owner and new to the Forum

Hello everyone.

After many weeks of reading, researching, browsing the net and making phone calls, we took the plunge.

Sold our Pop-Up Fleetwood Sequoia and took possession of our new 2015 Shamrock 23IKSS from Keystone RV Center in Greencastle, PA.

Have done several driveway camp outs to work out the bugs and luckily, haven't found any. Canvass are all seasoned and she is ready to go.

We are excited and looking forward to many wonderful trips we have planned. Also looking forward to being a contributor to the forum as well.

Welcome Carlosrod and congrats on your 2015 Shamrock 23IKSS. Wishing you many safe and memorable trips in it. We had a Fleetwood HW Hemlock pup many years ago. The year after we bought it they changed the name to Niagara. I loved that thing but only had it 3 years before we went the hybrid route.

Welcome Carlosrod! We purchased the 2014 model last fall and love it. We have only had about 2 weeks camping in it so far. It was great in hot Georgia weather, and no stink bugs got into this one like they did in our popup. It was also nice and warm during late fall cold and snow.

Enjoy!

Oh my gosh, I seriously can't wait to get our Shamrock 23IKSS this week. It's funny to read how similar our situations are! We've been in a pop up for 10 years with our last one being a bought-new 2007 Niagara HW Pop Up. It's so much work to pack up food, clothes, etc., pop up, get to the site, load up the pop up, camp, then undo everything to come home. I can't wait for the ease of a hybrid.

Congrats on your new purchase and thanks for the comforting words that tells us we are doing the right thing. We love our PUP, but are wanting more ease while camping!

Thank you all for the well wishes. Right back at you ALL.

Duncmelamom:
We too loved our pop-up, but like you said, just too much work. I didn't mind doing it, but it just took away from time with the family. Especially during short weekend trips. We did so many of them and realized that the actual time "Camping" was too short.
Anyway, we are very busy making it our own. We put all the gear back in it and we love the extra storage space.
Good Luck with yours.

Tomorrow I will be ordering the Gizmos for it. By the way, does anyone know the measurement of the canvass?

Congrats on the new Shamrock! Hope you had as good of an experience with Keystone RV as we did.

As far as the Gizmos go, just tell them what unit you have when you call. They are great people to work with. Had a set on our Santa Fe pup, which we moved over to our '08 Rockwood Roo 23SS. We gave them to the Roo's new owners and hope they serve them well.

We too loved our pop-up, but like you said, just too much work.
Popup was more work for the DW inside, but it didn't change too much for me on the outside:

After trailer is backed in, leveled and chocked:

Popup / hybrid:
Disconnect hitch, wiring and chains / same, plus equalizer bars on WDH
Extend stabilizers / same
Plug in electric / same
Hook up FW hose / same
Hook up grey water tank / hook up sewer hose
Turn on gas / Same
Crank up roof / OK, don't have to do that
Extend bunk ends / open bunk ends
Extend awning / same

If you offset cranking up the roof for taking off the equalizer bars, it's pretty much the same on the outside.

Really? You're going to compare cranking up a pop-up roof to taking off the bars?

Congrats on your Shamrock 23ikss. We've had ours nine months and love it. We had a popup also and loved it, but just out grew it. I do have to agree there is still outside work, but it still better. Welcome to the kiss club!!

*SNICKERS* wait for it...you WILL upgrade again! Nothing like the ease of a fully stocked and loaded 5th Wheel!!

Cranking was a lot cleaner than those bars!

BamaBob, how is it different with a 5th wheel since we can leave our Shamrock stocked and loaded, except in the winter?

We did like our pop up but it was the one night stands that did us in. It had A/C, heat, slide out dinette, hard sided bathroom and we loved the "windows" compared to trailers. It did have too many openings for those darn Georgia stink bugs last year! But, one night DH was hooking up and someone pulled in next to us and the guy hooked up electric, connected sewer and went in to have a beer while he was still hooking up! On the way home he said we were going trailer shopping. When I saw the unit with that island, it was a done deal!

At least I learned how to tow a pop up before getting this larger unit and it made the transition easier. We have learned how to communicate when it comes to backing up....hand on bottom of wheel and him saying right or left works well. No major arguments, thank goodness.

How easy is it to fasten the Gizmos each time you open the bunk ends?

At least with this unit we can open front bunk and still be hooked up to the Explorer which is great for those one nighters.

Congrats! We just got our IKSS last month after owning a pop up for 14 years. We love it. We can't believe the amount of storage and living space! I have used the bed warmers and can't imagine a spring night without them.

Last night was like a Christmas Eve to the nth degree! At 3pm today we'll finally be doing our walkthrough for our 2015 23ikss. I think I'm going to explode.

Can I get everything loaded for a camping trip tomorrow? It might be pushing things, but I think I can do it. It might mean loading everything from our Pop Up until the wee hours tonight, but I'll get 'er done.

I first have to apply contact paper everywhere. Do you guys use contact paper? Just curious!

I see this as an option that is not adhesive. It just doesn't seem so easy to wipe clean, but I can see the benefits of having things slide around. Does anyone use this or should I stick (hehe) with contact paper?
