Thanks guys - I think I put on the pump based on so much reading that said if your pump is on and stays on it indicates you have a leak somewhere.
On to the filter next - got a good stack of towels as I am sure some water will be spilt!!

Not sure what you're reading but no one suggests that you run the pump if you are hooked to city water.
Especially if you have nothing in the FW tank.
