New Roo 21ss Owner!

Greetings all. Just closed the deal on a 2010 21ss this past weekend. Looking forward to taking the family out for a weekend before it gets too cold (work craziness permitting).

Looks like this is a pretty active forum. Hope to learn the ins and outs of this TT.

Towing with a 2010 Suburban LTZ w/ HD Towing package. Not 100% I'm going to need a WD hitch but a cursory search through this board would seem to indicate that most owners do. Would love to hear some opinions or experiences on this.

Cheers!

WD hitch? Definitely a yes. Your suby is a half ton based vehicle and as such will require a wd hitch on any 4500 lb load. You will add about 1000 lbs of "stuff" typically to your dry weight but it is the resistance or drag of that 8x10 barn door you're dragging that will require the hitch. Cross winds and passing semis will make your trip a white knuckler, but the proper hitch will stabilize your load and make pulling much more enjoyable. Two more suggestions: check the tires closely. If original, suggest changing them out. If the trailer hasn't been used much, they could have lots of tread but also weather checking and dry rot. Second, keep your speed while towing at 65 or less. Trailer tires are rated for 65...no more. Good luck and enjoy your new rig.

Thanks for the feedback jking.. TT dealer put on new tires so I should be good there but will double check anyway.

Any recommendations on WD hitches? Seems to be a variety to choose from.

I use an Equalizer E 2 hitch pulling a 23ikss with a Ram 1500. No problems at all.

If you search craigslist you can find them cheap. I just bought a equalizer e4 complete setup for 150.00. I pull an 21ss qith an 07 tahoe and would not pull it without one. Can you? Yes. But definitely not recommended

do you need a WD hitch? No

Will you regret not having one? Yes. Yes you will.

I really like my Reese dual-cam setup for a WD hitch with built-in sway control, but there are many other fine hitches out there as well

Congrats on the new 21ss. Make sure to properly season the canvas before you rely on it to be 100% watertight. They can dribble a little at the seams until the threads swell. Usually 1-2 wet/dry cycles is enough.

Your Burb's owners manual will tell that a WDH is recommended.
I own a 2007 Avalanche and its manual recommended one to tow my Roo and the Avalanche is basically the same vehicle as the Burb.

Love my Equal-i-zer.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll be ordering a WD hitch here in the next day or two.

Upgrade Tires

My 2009 R00 had 2 blowouts in 4 trips. Yes, the tires are old. I upgraded to Taskmaster Tires at eTrailer.com. They are a little larger, 215s rather than 205s, but they are load range D and rated for 81 mph. I have confidence in my tires now.

Welcome and congrats on your 21SS. We have a 2016 21SS and love the floor space. Just the two of us plus three boxers, so floor space is more of a premium than storage space.

We love our 21SS too, floor space for two greyhounds and lots of room for the two of us. Welcome!
