Oven lighting

I went to light the oven and couldn't figure out where to hold the lighter flame, any idea? 2014 21S Roo oven.

Mine is a PITA to get lit. We have only used it once and it was my wife's patience that got it going. I wished I would have opted for more cabinet space. I believe you hold the lighter near the pilot light toward the back of the oven.

I have only had our new camper out on two trips and used the oven already for two cakes, biscuits, and baked potatoes. It does a great job. The flame is held at the rear of the burner where there are two small projections about the size of a ink pen's inner refill. The bottom projection emits the flame and the top one is the thermocouple which heats from the pilot light and tells the gas control to keep the pilot on and allow the main gas to flow when the temperature knob is turned up.

Before lighting, run the burners on the stovetop to get any air out of the gas lines. After you get it lit the first time, you will find it quick and efficient to get going. Run the oven for the first time without any plans to cook and with plenty of ventilation as there is odor from the initial heating of the oven burning off any manufacturing residues.

Enjoy!

Although I haven't tried this, it sounds like a great idea to make lighting the pilot easier. Hot melt glue a tea candle to a paint stir stick. Light the candle and use it to light the pilot.

Oven lighting

We utilized a tip that I read on the forum by placing tin foil underneath the pan/baking sheet so that the bottom of the biscuits or cinnamon rolls - or my favorite - cookies - aren't overcooked.

The oven certainly does the job and is a nice luxury to have for us while "camping".

As stated above the key is to get the air out of the gas lines first. Ours lights just fine afterwards. A small learning curve as it took me about 15 - 20 minutes the first go-round lighting that bad boy.

Good luck!

Try a long nose butane lighter. About a buck at the dollar store.
No wax to drip and it lights itself. A candle still needs to be lit by something
else.

I use one of those long handled lighters that are about a foot long. Just turn the oven knob to pilot, press on the knob and move the lighter around under the oven burner. Sooner or later you will get it in the right spot and it will ignite. Hold the knob in for a few seconds and release. If the pilot goes out you will have to repeat.

Among our camping friends we are the only ones that use the oven. We also have a tile in the bottom to maintain a more even heat and we use an oven thermometer so we can more accurately monitor the oven temperature.

Got to admit the ovens on all the rvs we've owned have been a problem (too far back, not enough room for your hand, etc.) Went to Home Depot and purchased a BBQ lighter and installed same. I should have gotten 4-way for all the burners.

Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by a BBQ lighter and "4-way"?

Thanks

Thank you everyone, love this forum. I think bleeding the line by lighting the top burners is the key I missed. I'll try again this weekend.

I don't have a link but many people use a pizza stone. I use an unglazed inexpensive (cheap) tile that I get at lowes, home depot etc. It has mass and acts as a heat sink helping to maintain a more even oven temp. I got this tip on this forum. You may be able to do a search and find more about it.

He's referring to a fixed piezo-igniter some stoves and barbeques are fitted with a single push button or rotary igniter with leads to all burners in the device. Georgetown stoves have that feature, just not the oven, only the burners.

I don't know about everyone else, but I always have a lot of trouble with those long nose lighters. I probably have a half dozen at the S&B and they don't work worth a flip. You can see butane in the little window, yet they won't light or are difficult to light or won't stay lit. That's why I thought the candle idea might be a good one. I don't believe the little votive candles would drip. I wonder why they don't make a spark igniter like they do for the top burners.

The lighter I installed has a battery. I put it next to the Piezo lighter for the burners. I bent up some metal to make up a holder for the ignitor to be in the correct place to light the oven pilot when we press the button. You have to kinda dismantle the stove to run the wire to the oven. It didn't take to long and works every time, unlike the piezo for the upper burners. They make the lighters with as many wires as you want to light each burner. In hindsight, I should have replaced the original piezo and used that hole.

Go to Home Debit (depot!) and search "grill ignitor" or see this-
Brinkmann Universal Electronic Ignitor Kit-812-7220-S at The Home Depot

Slightly off topic but we used/use a pizza stone in the oven trying to
keep the biscuits from burning on the bottom.
As suggested here by someone we got one of those "air layer" cookie
sheets. That made a big difference. Now we can bake biscuits and not
burn the bottoms.
Happy Trails!
