"Overextend" electric awning?

When we had our walk-thru, our camper was too close to another on the lot for him to totally explain the awning. After reading the manual, I got a little concerned about this issue. The picture in the manual isn't real clear about a "valance rope" not being behind the roller. On our trip I was careful to let it out just enough for the flap (or valance) to flip out. Can anyone give me a little more clarity? I sure don't wanna tear up anything the first few trips out

Thanks
Bill

Mine will go out just a little bit beyond where the flap is hanging straight down but it rolls back just fine.
I did wonder if the awning could have been a little longer but it looks fine like it is.

I run mine out all the way, then back it up to get rid of any valley between the awning and the roller. I believe Herk had posted a picture of the difference in another thread, but I don't remember which one.

And make sure you have one end lower than the other to prevent water build up in the middle.

This is a picture of riveting the material after centering it on the tube and the awning is over-extended.

I have the flappy deal hanging straight down from the bottom of the roller.
Water will run over the roller and not pool.
^^That's a good pic^^ for clarity - thanks

the slide opening should be straight down for an awning. If you are past that you have extended IT to far out. you will stretch the vinyl.

Thanks everyone. We graduated from a PUP with a bag awning so this is all new to me.
