What difference does it make? Walmart understands the business relationship and it mostly works for them and we have a place to drop in and stay overnight while getting on our way. They understand we will shop while parking. It's not camping it's parking. I really appreciate their understanding of our need to have a safe place to stop when it's required.

I think there is a difference of "parking" and "camping". To me, if you are pulling in, cooking a meal, watching TV, getting some sleep, and spending 10-12 hours, you are camping. Pulling in at anytime, day or night, spending 2-3, or more hours sleeping then moving on, is parking. I would hate for those that "camp" in Walmart, ruin it for those of us that "park" at Walmart. I can drive for days on end with 2-3 hours of sleep. I know when I need it, and I find the first place that I feel is safe, (or those around me are safe from me ).

Walmart does not provide any security and I have heard of a couple instances where local police asked the camper to move on. Good for them. So start sending all that hate mail.
We called ahead to a campground last night, we were running late. They told us we had to be there by 9pm or there would be an additional charge. That left us with two options; hotel or Walmart parking lot. I can't see paying $75 (cost of campground plus surcharge) for what at best would have been a 8-10 hour stay.

Do I make a habit of using Walmart? No, but it is a viable option in some cases.

We always ask permission, park as far away from the entrances as possible, open only the minimal number of slides and are on our way early the next morning.

That's not overnight parking. That's grabbing a quick nap. I used to be able to do that but no more.
When on the road we will be at a Walmart from around 8 pm till 8-9 am. I always talk to a manager and let them know how much we appreciate the ability to do that. I have always gotten a response like its our pleasure. I have asked what they consider to be abuse and it's always the same. People ( mostly truckers) leave their garbage in the lot. Truckers often leave their full piss jugs in the lot. That will be what gets it shut down not someone staying 10 hours.

If I can find a CG close to my route with a pull-thru available I'll go there. If not I look for a place to spend from 4 hours to possibly 8. Never a Walmart as I don't buy anything there so will not stop there.

Being retired, we NEVER stay at Walmarts or Cracker Barrels. See no reason for it for us or full timers. Just need to PLAN AHEAD!

Also being Retarded oh wait retired planning ahead is like back working at a job, half the fun is not planning and ending up where ever this is RVing. If you start looking early in the day most time you can find a campground. If not cracker barrel or wally world will do, haven't been to church in years so I don't think of those as a stop over.

Greetings OldCoot, Just wondering, You have made references in other threads that you and the DW may consider ending the camping. Is this still a consideration for you?

There is the Mohegan Sun Casino, however. They allow you to stay in their lot and will send a shuttle to carry you to the casino and restaurants.
Heres our campsite.

CBs, Wal-Marts and the like can be more convenient for layovers. On the way home (from Watkins Glen) Gettysburg was half way. Plenty of CGs close to Rt. 15 there so we chose a camp nearby.
It's not about saving money for us. It's location, location, location.
Man, you were right in my backyard! I use Mohegan whenever I feel the need to lose $50 playing blackjack.

They have a pretty good lunch and dinner buffet, too.
That Petro also has a dump station...I think it's $10 to use it, or free if you buy X gallons of fuel.

As for the Walmart question--we have 2 Supercenters right off I-81. The one in WB Township and the one in Pittston, near the airport. WB township has a "no overnight parking" ordinance, but you still see motor homes and campers parked there all the time. Pittston doesn't have the overnight parking ordinance, but that Walmart has those overhead bars at all the lot entrances, like they're trying to keep campers out. So go figure???
