Thank you. Would it be okay to use our water hose to spray out the stuff in their?
Yes, and recommended. CW (and other places) sell a water heater rinse out tool. It's a long skinny nozzle that will fit through the plug hole in the water heater and does a jam up job rinsing the thing out.
About $7 if I remember correctly.

Thank you everyone! Yes mine looks like the picture you posted rockfordroo. I think I will try and get to CW on Monday to replace the anode rod. I'm not sure the brand name of my heater but I will bring the rod and hopefully they should be able to tell me which one I need.
We took the plug out of our pop up camper hot water heater. We bought it used. It looks like the plug needs to be replaced. Where would be buy one?
Pop-up ?? Thought you had a Roo ??
This a picture of my anode rod from a couple of weeks ago when I winterized:
That is after 6 years of use, and should be good for a bunch more years. They do not need to be replaced unless they are more than about 75% deteriorated. Mine is probably only about 25% gone.
