Popup Gizmos - my D'oh! moment

TK421, i was responding to the other posters that were waiting to see other hybrid owners that have them, before they would decide whether to buy them or not.

if i'd done that, i still wouldn't have after almost 7 years with my hybrid. i've never seen anyone in Calif. with them. but then i rarely ever see a hybrid out here anyway!
they are pretty rare.

Copy that. My purchase was in response to what others were saying on here (including you) about what a great product they are and a fine man Bob is to deal with.

I have to concur about the rarity of seeing them or hybrids. Camping out in MT and WY earlier this summer we didnt see one hybrid in any of the campgrounds we stayed at for the entire two weeks we were out. We saw a few hybrids on the road total. Then two weeks ago in a MN state park we saw a half a dozen hybrids in the campground we were at with one of them using the original pugs. That might have been the first hybrid or pup we have seen with pugs. We did get some comments out west how "cool those silver looking things" are.

I think I may get a couple of these for my 2014 Surveyor 192T. I was also thinking of getting some of that Reflectix stuff to put under the mattress of the end beds. Anything to make it a bit more comfortable is good in my books.

I had gizmos on our pop up, and they truly make a huge difference for the temperature and darken the beds for sleeping in. I saved them in case I wanted to modify to fit our roo but so far have found the camper stays very comfortable.

I did attach mine on the pop up with Velcro in the underside of the roof so I didn't have to take on and off. Just lifted the frame door the bed and hooked up the cords underneath. Anyone tried this with their hybrid?

In combination with the 4" memory foam mattress topper we added, the PUGS saved the kids from cooking in the early morning sun and allowed the whole family to sleep quite late in the morning! I don't love that the camper interior isn't as bright during the day though.

How have you made the pugs stay on the tent? What are your connection points below the floor of the end bunks?
I have a 2013 Roo19 and will be very interested in these for next year. Went camped in the rain in California this month and the tent inside got very damp. It was our first outing in the newroo.

I connected the shock cords to a key ring, and use a carbiner to connect them together underneath the floor.

On the top side, I use 2 small spring clips to clamp the pug to the highest point of the canvas I can.

The picture shows the first time I set it up, where I used the spring clips to grab the rubber itself. This turned out to be a bad idea for two reasons. 1) It was hard to get the middle ones clipped with only a 4' ladder, and 2) it started to tear the rubber a little bit. So now I ONLY do the corner ones where I circled in the picture.

My next mod will be to sew some velcro to the PUG, and glue velcro to the canvas, so the middle section up top stays secure.

That said, I've camped with just the corners clamped as described, and it stayed in place fine, and that was through a decent wind / rain storm.

I should add, these are not designed to stop rain penetration, but help fight condensation inside your canvas (with a bonus of darkening the bunks quite a bit). But if you do get it up high enough, it will help shed water.

Reflectix between the bunkend screens and the privacy panels works wonders as well. Doing this also helps darken the bunks with the added advantage of either keeping things cool or keeping things warm, depending on which climate control you are using.
We had PUGS on our Santa Fe PUP. When we replaced that with a new Roo 23SS in 2008, the PUGS stayed with us and fit perfectly on the Roo. Wouldn't have camped without them.

Went through a couple of sets of the PUGs with my pop-up. They made a big difference in hot, sunny weather. And like someone said, they keep the bunk-ends cleaner since leaves, pollen, bird poop, etc., land on the PUG, not the bunk-end. My experiences with Bob at PUG have always been positive. Once I needed the covers in a hurry & he upgraded shipping at no extra cost. And the last time I ordered, he upgraded the covers from the standard to the high wind at no extra cost. I'll probably get a new set for the Roo for next summer. Highly recommend them!
