Possible dinette table mod

Here is a mod I am considering for the u-shaped dinette of my Roo 233s and i haven't even taken possession yet.

The table for the dinette has (from what I can see on the pictures) a set of fold our legs (pic 1). I can imagine a number of stubbed toes and tears as people (kids) shift along the bench seat to get to the back of the "U".

I think I may install a telescopic table leg for that table. The are available from marine shops (pic 2). The come in a variety of heights and travel lengths.

I have attached a marine application of the telescopic leg (Pic 3). This is a table that converts to a bed. Same as the RV application I am considering.

My only concerns are:
1. Can the telescopic leg be attached to the slide our floor.

2. If I install it attached to the floor then the position is fixed and permanent
ie. I can not use that table outside

Any thoughts??

The table in our 233S (same as yours) is adequate, but wobbles quite a bit. Drinks are sure to be spilled with the slightest bump to the table. My understanding is that the slide that the dinette sits on will not accomodate those type of pedestals for the table. I'll be curious to see if you are able to make that mod.

I know the DW will make me live with the TT for a while before we do any mods, maybe until the warranty runs out.

The telescoping table legs are not cheap. $200 to $500 depending on if they are manual or Gas Assist rising.

There is one on Seascrew.com that is marketed for RV (caravan) applications.

I have considered attaching the adjustable leg to a larger, heavier base, perhaps a metal plate base. Like a restaurant table to help keep it stable without attaching it to the floor

I'd really make sure the permanent pedestal mount can be attached without effective the slide (as mentioned above).

FWIW - we have never take our table outdoors while camping.

We have the same table in our 21BH. The table was almost to wobbly to use. I bought 8 4" L brackets and attached them to the table where the legs meet the horizontal feet and table top. It stiffened it up allot. I used screws to attach the brackets and painted them black when done. Be sure to have good drill bits because the metal legs were hard to drill through.

I should add that you will do well to live with it for awhile. We rarely eat indoors anyway, so its almost a moot point for us. OTOH, it would provide more leg room and that would be useful if you find your family at the table often.

We'd have no issue with the table being permanently attached on a pedestal without the ability to lower it. I haven't yet gotten underneath to look at where the bolts would attach and if they would clear the slide. I believe it was my dealer who told me the pedestal legs won't work on the slide dinette.

We have a 2304s but same table, we ended up putting wood screw on legs on our table, it is very sturdy and we don't hit our legs on that folding contraption, although we did put it on our counter extension so it is now movable about the trailer. We even use it as a table to give us more room in u dinette.

Thanks everyone.

This is a pic of the mod I am thinking of doing - you gotta love photoshop!

We were actually glad to get away from the pedistal mount in our previous HTT, and get to more portable folding leg table. We've took it outside once as an extra serving table for an impromptu campground picnic, and we've pulled it in front of the sofa to do a puzzle... Additionally, without the floor-mount hardware in the way, we use the space under the table for in-travel storage of items that get used outside once we get to our destination.

We just got a 23SS on Monday and as others have said, the table wobbles so much that it is almost unusable. We play lots of games at night and this will be a problem. I looked at where the flex is happening and it looks like the screws are not driven in flush. Are they all like this?

Thanks!

There is a high possibility I might do this mod. I just found someone who has done it.
Darn I thought I was being original.

It appears that this mod is on a slide out too
This looks like a FF Wildcat 28RKX - Year ??? But the bench seats are a clue to age

If I were to attempt this mod, I think I would use a heavy restaurant table base like you are proposing. But I also think I would search the home improvement stores for a formica table top that is close in size and not modify the Rockwood table. Good to see how it works first without possible destruction or alteration of the factory piece...

I love the U-dinette, wish mine had it. I hate the bulky heavy wobbly combersome dinette table.

I would definitely mount a support plate under the slide floor as well, if there is room. It would work on our camper's slide.
The under-floor support plate could be bolted to a base plate above the floor, making sure to cover two floor "joists" with the bottom plate, using carriage bolts with the nuts on top. That would minimize the interference with the slide seal.
Then the telescopc base could be attached to the base plate. That would result in a very strong table, and no worries about damaging the floor from someone pushing down on one side of the table.
A bit more work, but definitely a superior result.
Just my 3 cents!

The DW vetoed the mod. She likes to be able to move the table around
