Power supply fan noise

We are loading up for a week of camping and I noticed the fan in the power supply is making an inconsistant hummm. The fan is operating but the speed of the fan seems to be flucuating. Is this normal during a phaase of the charging cycle? We will be Boondocking and have a 1000 watt generator to refresh the batteries but if the power supply is on the blink we are going ot have a problem. The fan seems to be moving a good amout of air around the circuit board.

Yes this is normal.

The more the load the faster it will run.

Keep in mind the amount of lights you have on effects fan speed as well.

It's when you have a "big" load on the 12v system and the fan isn't running that you should be worried.

I'm assuming by your post, the hum is a new sound. If thats the case, then based on age and overall usage, you might be expierencing an aging of your electronics. The fan operates as a function of load, which creates heat, thus the fan cools the device. All you can do is monitor the noise level and deal with what does or does not happen as you use it. Just sayin'

Batteries 2 years old. The climate control switch was turned on as we loaded the frig. It is the first time we had it on. I guess the added draw (with lights) while we were loading created enough current to cause the fan to cycle. All is well now except the rain for the trip in the morning. Thanks for all the answers and info.
