Prefab shower shelf modifications?

Just curious if anyone has modified the prefab shelves build into the shower walls. They simply, by themselves dont work. The area is too shallow and when wet, nothing will stay on those shelves and fall onto the shower floor.

I tried installing those trays with suction cups, but our shower walls are not smooth but have a slighly textured finish and the suction cups will not stick.

I was thinking about possibly putting silicone around some hook n eyes to attach mini bungie cords across the opening to hold shampoos, etc. Maybe a type of mini cargo net over that area, but I'm leary about drilling holes in the shower walls.

Any ideas?

That soap nook, shelf or whatever the heck it's supposed to be is an absolute worthless waste of wall space. I'd like to meet the idiot who came up with that!

Take a look at my bathroom. among other things, I modified the shower curtain by having it swingout further and added snaps to hold it, mounted a soap/shampoo/conditioner dispenser.
