Jimandchris thanks for the video. It was hard to hear. What did you put over the bunk end after you latched up. Some type of rain gutter?

Hello dado39 from the clarkston area!

For the cap I used 1 1/4 inch diameter pvc, ended up being 87 inches in length, that gives you an extra inch or so over rthe end. I'll have to get you a measurement on how much I cut out to make it fit. It slides in between the outside bunk edge and all the screws along the top that hold the gutter/flange to the body. That way it can't fall off except by sliding it out the side. It was trial and error with a small piece of pvc until I got the fit I wanted. Then cut out the slot using a jig saw with a blade cut in half. Totally covers the top seal area. I did do some sanding to smooth the edges a bit.
We've only had one small leak one time all summer, in the rear bunk, but I'd rather do this and not have any surprises come spring.

Jim

Sorry about the audio quality, used my canon 7d and the internal mike is horrible. Here are a couple of pics of what I'm using to cover the top seal area and keep any water out of the seals

Are you aware of PUGs(popup gizmos)?
I've never had to clean the tent ends since I always use the PUGs.

I like the PVC idea. I did the same thing last year with garden hose slit with a box cutter. The hose is a little easier to store but a little harder to put on.

Dado39, here's a drawing of what I ended up with, I snapped a chalk line end to end of where I needed to cut, then used a sharpie to mark the line every two inches or so. Then cut with the jig saw. My second one was much better looking than the first, less sanding.

We are heading north next week to young state park for a fall color trip, going to leave them on to see how they work during traveling. Also toying with the idea of putting caps on the ends but not sure if it would stay in place. Really made them for winter storage as a precaution against top seal leakage.

Don't see why not, as long as it doesn't melt it. I was worried more about keeping the pvc from rotating as I was cutting. Thought it'd be easier to keep the pvc anchored in one place and move the saw instead of the other way around. I'm sure there are many ways to "skin the cat" and anyway the pvc is cheap.

I'm surprised that you've never heard of them, since you've owned 4 popups.
Just Google them for info.
Or search here or any of the other popup or hybrid forums on the Net.
They have been discussed thousands of times and are the #1 mod for both types of trailers.

Thanks for the video. Our ROO doesn't have straps on the matteress and the matteress isn't folded in half more like 3/4 flat and 1/4 fold. I always fold it and pull it toward the inside. I never thought about using the fans. That's pretty incredible. Will have to remember that.

I think the two best mods for a hybrid are the PUGs and reflectix with OCs awning poles a close second. JMO

I also use reflectix when it's hot or cold. When it's a nice temp and low humidity ( in NC is about 5 days a year), I don't put them in. But again, that's rare.

For us Michiganders it extends the camping season a bit longer, earlier in the spring, later in the fall. They really help with the cooler weather.
