Just wanted to update here. My new 9000 awning came in a couple weeks ago. New dealer quoted me 1400 with tax and install over the phone. When I went in to pay they told me I needed new arms and that was not included in the price and it would be upwards of 1800. I laughed at them and told them I would purchase on the interwebs for 1200. They laughed at me. I came out the winner, and paid $1200 and some change shipped from PPL motorhomes. Great online dealer. I unpackaged and inspected everything and it all looked great. Tonight I inspected the holes where the lag bolts ripped out of and I can get a slightly larger lag bolt and reinstall myself. All in all, turning out to be a good experience. Going to be a lot more careful and never backing I to my spot without tow mirrors or a backer again. It can sit in the field until I can get someone to help watch. I will snap some pictures of the install tomorrow.

The insurance company is paying our dealer 2600 to replace ours. The dealer is charging 8 hours at 99 bucks an hour to replace it. I could have done it myself in an hour or two.

Nobody was hurt. The camper can be repaired, the pin can be replaced and you can buy new hedge trimmers. Life's still good!

Reminds me of when I got my first 5r, several years ago. I was so proud of it I went by a friends house with it to show it off and ripped a 8' gash in the roof from a tree branch in front of my friends house. The Cougar was only hours old to us at that point. I didn't make the same mistake when we got our 8289WS and have always ben aware of overhead clearance since.

That is rediculous. Took 10 minutes to get the old one off, and it will take about 1/2-1 hour to out new one on. My dealer had the nerve to tell me that his prices were not marked up and directly from dometic. "We do not make any money on the sale of these things." That is when I laughed and turned around. Basically your dealer is about the same price as my dealer, MSRP, but they are bending the insurance company over because they see a chance to make extra. I can't believe the insurance company is going for it.

We opted not to go through insurance due to overall premium increase. I am so far only out the $1200 for my awning. I would imagine I could easily pay that with and increased premium due to my "at risk record." I am going to be going with another company soon if we can save some money as our premiums continue to rise every year.

Yep, it was a good lesson learned. And the mower ended up being a full engine rebuild, hoping to get it back from the repair shop next week.

Doesn't matter who you go with - the premiums will continue to go up. That's life.

Agreed, but they go up even more if I claimed this. Did not install today like I wanted, too windy. I will update with pictures when I find time to get this on.

We haven't had a claim ever so we decided to go ahead with it. The parts alone were going to be about 1500 bucks since we needed everything including the arms, etc. We have a 1k deductible so it was worth it. Premium did not go up.

It is upsetting that they priced the labor so high, but Geico only required one estimate since it's an RV. The adjuster didn't have a clue about RVs. I had to give him a tour.

The dealership is making out on this one.

Yeah, the awning I got, the 9000 Manual awning with metal weather shield came out to 1203.89 including the shipping through PPL motor homes and that is with the heavy duty arms and hardware. It is crazy how there can be that much of a difference of price. I like to shop around, especially since we opted to not go through insurance. At least you will have the satisfaction knowing the dealer has to stand behind their work. happy camping!

Ripped awning off side of Roo

No markup huh? 15ft 9000 and rails for $400 from Forest River Warranty.
Wasn't even a warranty issue. More like an unattended awning in a monsoon.

If you didn't already replace your awning, could you use the Dometic awning we have for sale?

I already installed my new one. It was an easy straight forward install.

Dbarr, is that price include the roller tube as well? Those are what really get things expensive!

That was everything. Tube, vinyl and arms. $75 shipping. Wasn't all that long ago either...May 2012. The stealership thought they were going to get the check from my insurance so of course they built in an enormous profit for themselves. They didn't even wait for my approval to order the parts. I guess maybe they should've asked if I had a loan on it or maybe not have pi$$ed me off and they wouldn't have got stuck with the parts. Forest River was great. They took care of everything I needed with reasonable prices and in return I bought another FR trailer.
