Roo 233 beds leak

We recently bought a used 2006 Roo 233 and are having some small leaks above each of the beds while the beds are closed and the camper is not being used.

It seems as though the channels above each closed bed door, which should divert any water running off the roof, are not doing the job very effectively. The water still seems to find its way into the door gap that leads inside in certain rainy situations. Why this wasn't designed better is beyond me.

Wondering if anyone else is/has experienced this issue and if there is a suitable fix? Would a dealer know what to do? Or is only a home grown solution attemptable?

I think a gasket around each bed door would work wonders, or a metal flange built into each door frame which would channel any water that seeps in through the door would be a great idea, but I am not familiar with what's available. Help!

Thanks for any assistance & happy camping this weekend. This will be our second time camping in two weeks - bought it only three weeks ago!

I'm from Indianola and I have a 2005 21ss Roo. I'm going to try a piece of 1/4 foam weather stripping. There should be a rubber gasket inside the metal frame of the bunk door once you open it.

Sometimes water gets in through the marker lights above the bunk doors.

Search the forum and you'll find several threads on this problem. You should be able to order a newer, better pinch welt seal (it's a replacement for the white trim on the edge of your bunk door) from your dealer or directly from Forest River but it's not a guarantee to prevent water getting in.

On my 2010 I replaced the pinch welt and the black rubber pads on the door latches. That worked most of the time but I found water can get onto the top of the pinch welt, probably overflowing the J-section that's over the doors, and it sits there. If it can find its way through the seals it will over time. On mine, the screws holding the door frame on the walls were not put in square and the screw heads prevent the pinch welt from making a perfect seal. The factory also said sometimes the bed door will warp a bit but I didn't find that was an issue for me.

You need to figure out how the water is getting past the seals and resolve that problem.

Good luck!

I had issues of water leaking into my Roo beds. Then I made PVC pipe hanging things as described by another member of the Forum. Works great and I've not had water in over a year. I just completed a drive from Virginia to New Jersey and drove through down pours with no problem.

I suggest searching both my posts and Pixleys. He is the original creator of the pipe things.

My Roo has the gutter strip right above the bunk frame. Did you add this in addition to that?

I had the gutter strip above the front and back ends. I purchased and installed an additional strip from Forest River for the side bunk end.

Check under the mattress for any signs of water stains from leaking ends.
Check bottom outside of bunk ends for signs of delamination of fiberglass.

I'm not aware of any recalls and these are the two big issues I read about on the forums. Maybe someone else with more experience can add to this.

The bed door leaking when closed is the most common problem.

If you can, try to examine it immediately after a good rain and before the owner has had a chance to dry it off.

The delamination tends to happen with the leaking as the water sits in the bottom of the wall frame and wicks up into the bed door core and it delaminates.

If you can find one that doesn't have the leak problem then they are a fantastic trailer.

I think 2022 may have been the year that they switched to the new permanently attached canvas. The initial design had a leak problem that was less frequent after a design change. On the new design, check that the black seals are not separated at the top corners.

When I had my roo21ss I noticed while closed the upper seal would not completely seal against the trailer. I was able to stick some white garage door molding, (the stuff that would seal the bottom of a garage door) just under that drip channel so the top of the bed when closed made a complete seal. Seemed to do the job then I sold it. They should of used that nice big soft slide out seal around the bed frames.
