roo 233s and a generator

HELP. We have a 2015 233s and a Yamaha 2000 Generator. We were told that the generator should power everything except the air conditioner and the microwave. We tried to use it this weekend. Originally so I could make a cup of coffee but it wouldn't work. Then we went to turn on the generator to charge the batteries. The 1st time, we had to turn off the fridge (which was turned on to run off gas). If the fridge was on it was shut down (overloading) the generator. The next time we turned the generator on to charge the battery, my husband left the fridge on but turned of the hot water heater. I am so confused. There was NOTHING plugged into any of the outlets. Why won't the generator work? I told my hubby that I would check with you guys before he goes to the dealership.
any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It should power everything except the a/c.
My Honda 2000 runs everything, including the a/c at low elevation.

Sounds more like something wrong with the Yamaha.
Or the battery is so low, it's drawing too much of the Yamaha's power for recharge.

I assume the overload light is coming on. This may be caused by the refrigerator auto switching to AC power once the generator is kicked on. Make sure the gas button is pressed and not the auto. If you do not have a gas button, you will need to unplug the fridge from the outside compartment access.

Keep in mind that your water heater has an electric switch on the outside that if on will use electricity to heat your water. Once power is plugged in, this will automatically come on. make sure the switch is off.

And as YouRoo mentioned, make sure bed mattress heaters are not plugged in.

Hi Jeff and Michelle,

I have a Yamaha EF2400iSHC and when it has been overloaded the motor must be turned off completely to reset the AC outlet. Just make sure you have the "on/off" button in the right position when starting it again.

On my RV the fridge will default to Electric if it is on Auto. Switch fridge to Gas to avoid this prior to running your gen set.

Further on my unit, if the power (AC) button (mine is on the outside of the RV by the hot-water heater with a safety pin through it) is in the "on" position, it also will default to AC power when you plug your generator in. Turn it to off position.

When the system is over loaded some or all of your GFI breakers may have to be reset. In my RV the GFI (if you have one) is right on the plug in, two small buttons. Could also be on the the breaker panel. I have one in the bath room and one in the kitchen area.

Good luck,

I have a pair of Yamaha EF2000iS generators. I usually don't need the A/C, so I run just one of the generators and it works just fine. I force my refrigerator to gas and keep my water heater on gas so the only load on the generator is the converter (charging the batteries and powering the lights, etc.) and either the coffee pot or microwave (but not both at the same time). I don't think it makes sense to run the refrigerator or water heater from the generator so they stay on LP except when on shore power.

You should be able to run the microwave or the drip coffee pot with your generator. I imagine that there could be a problem if your converter was charging a low battery while trying to supply power to the coffee pot or microwave.

You might try to run an extension cord from your generator to your coffee pot or even a toaster as a test to see if your generator can handle that load. It certainly should do fine. If it fails, then the generator is having problems.

I use a Harbor freight Gen. It is loud but will run ac and microwave and is 4 kw. It starts and runs well. It doesn't even slow when ac kicks on. Is under $300.
