Roo 23ikss and WDH

So we are thinking about selling our 2012 HW277 and getting a new 23ikss and wondering what WDH others are using with this same trailer. Looking for for pros and cons. TV is an 2011 Tundra with 5.7 rated at 9000 so we are good there.

Get an equalizer brand hitch. Has 4 point sway control built in. I have a 2013 tundra I pull a 26 foot toy hauler with. Tongue weight at 1000 pounds pulls great and tundra doesn't miss a beat.

Our 23IKSS came with the basic ProSeries WDH with friction sway control. It was part of the package when we bought it at the RV show, and at the time I didn't pay too much attention, given all the other options and decisions we were trying to make. In hind-sight, I probably should have done a little more research and looked into an upgrade. But the ProSeries is pretty easy to use and works well. Truck and trailer are level, and it tows great. The friction sway isn't recommended for sharp turns or backing up (can bend it). So I have to remember to pull the pins when stop to check-in at the CG. A little hastle, but not a show stopper.

If a higher end hitch is in the budget, go for it, but if not the ProSeries works just fine at about half the price.

Are you using the 2 5/16" ball that supposed to come with or did you switch to a 2"? Though the trailer was a 2" receiver.

I use the Equal-i-zer with my 233S and Sequoia with the 5.7.

In general, I think that the most popular WDH's to use are the Equal-i-zer and Reese Dual Cam with hybrid trailers.

Then there's Blue Ox, Andersen, and Husky. I'm less familiar with those. Many people like Blue Ox, Andersen is fairly new and has had mixed reviews (some love it), and Husky has been around for awhile but I'm less familiar with them.

Propride and Hensley are premium hitches. Many say its worth the upfront cost.

The ball size is 2 5/16" The receiver itself (truck side) is a standard 2" square.

Andersen No Sway, we pull our Roo 25 RS with it. My husband will never buy a traditional WDH again.

Very easy to use, totally quiet, no grease, and it eliminates bounce. We have gone over train tracks and there was no pull or kick from it whatsoever.

Excellent. Thank you. Can you find out if you are using the 4" bracket or the 6"? Thanks again

We have the 4 inch. We checked into it and were told we would only need the 6 inch if we had our truck lifted, which we don't.

Hondaman174,
We have the 23ikss and have the same WDH as you and have and so far towed twice, works great. I have not installed the sway control yet, didn’t have time at first and it’s pulled great without it. Our TV is a 2006 F150 super crew with the 5.4 triton. I went with that WDH because all the other $$ we were throwing at the trailer to get ready just couldn’t swing the $400 + for the other models but so far I’m happy with it. I’ll update at the end of the summer after we’ve had a few more trips under our belt.

Well this is all informational right now. Just listening to everyone's setup and seeing what works and what works really well for some. Still beating up dealers on pricing (and talking DW into it). I do like that Anderson WDH though- looks like I can't even mess that up!

All the hitches listed are great, but I am partial to my Reese Dual-Cam. Absolutly dead solid sway control in all conditions. No friciton material to wear out. Some people say they are noisy, but the only time I ever hear any noise is when I am backing up and have a huge angle on the hitch (like when trying to line up in the campsite). Even then its just a light 'thunk' once in a while.

If you're seriously considering an Anderson WDH, google Anderson hitches and add "review." The Airstream guys were discussing some issues they were having with the Anderson. Several guys were having the latch that locks around the ball coming undone. On a norma WDH, the spring bars tend to pull the A-frame of the hitch DOWN. On the Anderson, the springs/chains try to pull the A-frame towards the ball, which is apparently causing some to try to unlatch. There are other concerns regarding the brackets on the A-frame. Again, on a normal WDH, the srping bars are pulling down, but on the Anderson, the springs/chains are trying to pull the brackets forward. If they were to slide, you'd have an issue. There's apparently a "set screw" that's supposed to keep them from sliding, but they were questioning its adequacy. I do like the no-grease, though!

The Andersen hitch is not compatible with the Atwood 88000 coupler due to that unlatching problem. Just look at the stamping on your camper's coupler and make sure it doesn't say Atwood model 88xxx. I just took the maiden voyage of about 400 miles with my new Andersen hitch and had no problems. Of course I never towed it without the hitch to compare, but it was easy to install and completely silent with no problems backing up.
