RV Bumper Hitch
How do I find out the bumper weight rating on my Shamrock 23IKSS? I am thinking about buying one of those 4" bumper adapters and attaching it to the TT rear bumper to haul bikes/cargo carrier. The manufacturer recommends checking the bumper rating, but cannot find it anywhere. Has anyone purchased one for their hybrid and if so does it void the warranty? Camping World has on advertised on their website and it has a 200lb weight capacity. The model number is 17221. I don't ever plan on towing with this hitch.

You should check with your dealer or Forest River......a lot of people here don't recommend installing bike rack as lite travel trailer bumper are not strong enough....

For that model camper I would suggest something from Arvika that would mount to the front of your tt.

the bumper capacity is at its max with a sewer hose inside it . Suggest finding a different way to haul bikes.

There are many posts on this touchy subject. I would suggest not using the bumper. Even if it was strong enough (its not) the flex of the bikes hanging out over the bumper is amazing while traveling. You could lose them. The bike rack on the bumper may void frame warranty.

The bumper by itself is not adequate. A number of us have a 2" receiver installed, but with beefed up framing, and have not had problems. But you need to do it properly. Some haven't done it properly and have had problems. Otherwise, other options include the Arvika mentioned above, going with a front hitch on your tow vehicle, carrying them in your TV (pickup bed) or putting your bikes in the RV. Do a search for "bike rack" in the forum and stand by for lots of opinions!!!

So agree with just doing it right, for the tongue weight sensitive guys like myself loading everything up front is not a great option.

I looked into mounting up at the front, but already have a large tongue weight on this unit. I guess I will scrap this idea and load into TT or truck. Thanks for all the responses.

If you want the room in the back of the truck for other stuff, you could look into putting a 2" receiver on the front of your truck as well. Maybe inside the trailer?
Just a suggestion.

Mine has a sticker right on the bumper that says ANY non-factory installed bumper accessories may void warranty.

I installed a bumper 2" receiver for only one purpose. Store my stabilizer hitch when camping rather than leave it on truck or figure out a place to put it. Its under the bed and dry there and use a lock to keep it there. Otherwise I use a luggage tray, when camping, to hold equipment and a generator to keep off the ground (I put luggage tray in back of truck when traveling)
