Sharp Corners on Shamrock 233

Has anyone else experienced the tent ripping when it hits one of the sharp corners on the end of the bed before it is all set up...This happened inadvertently to the dealer before we bought the trailer and they replaced the tent end, now we got the trailer home and it happened to us while being very very careful when putting tent down.

Any thoughts?

First time I hear or read of this... not sure how it could happen, twice.

Sorry, but can't help you with that one.

Bummer for sure.

are you attaching the corners before lowering the bunk door down?
that's what is sounds like you and the dealer are doing it, when you say it "hits" the corner.
can't see any other way you could be tearing them, otherwise.
sounds like the dealer doesn't know how a hybrid sets up.

to setup, you lower the door down. THEN you pull out the canvas and begin pulling it over the sides/corners of the bunk platform.
can't see how it's tearing if you do it this way.

Maybe this could help:

2010 Rockwood Roo Walk Through Part 1 RVWholesalers.com - YouTube

I know it helped me a lot - I learned a few things. Worth the few minutes watching.

Thanks. The 2010 Rockwood Roo which is similar to my 2011 Shamrock 233 (which was manufactured in Aug 2008) does not have the white trim on the outside of the door of the tent end...it is just metal.

miatared,

does your 2011 have that white gasket on the outside of the door in addition to the black gasket on the inside?

Thanks

Matt

Yes I have a white rubber trim around the perimeter of both bunks.

Probaby easy to find at any dealer.

By the way, Roo and Shamrock are identical - except for decals and inside trim colour.

my Roo's doors have white metal trim around the edges. and i've never had a tearing problem.

you still haven't said if you attach the canvas before dropping the door down.
just trying to determine if there's a problem in your setup procedure.

No, I did not attach the canvas before dropping the door down...kinda impossible to do that...I wouldn't stand there with the door half way down holding it with one hand and then attaching it with the other....set up was the same as the dealer did and the same as the RVW youtube video.

sounds like the trim is missing from the edges/corners. not sure if the newer ones have a gasket on the edges, instead of the trim that mine has.
something ain't right since this issue is one i haven't read about in the 6 years i've been on Hybrid forums.

Yes, the video of the 2010 has the white trim around the outside and a black rubber gasket on the inside. Another person here has a 2011 with white trim on outside of doors.
Something is definitely amiss.

Inside the white gasket that runs around the outside of the bunk door is a metal wire. I found a piece protruding this summer and I had to cut it off. It was to a point and extremely sharp. I was lucky I caught it before it tore something. It was rusty. Check for sharp edges then eliminate. I am assuming this is on the side canvas that the cords attach to somewhere near the corner gussett and not on the flap with the snaps?

i'm so glad you posted this question!!
i had my front bunk door replaced, free of charge, when they installed new seals over a year ago.
they never installed the snaps and velcro, so i was always planning on taking it back for them to finish it.

after seeing your pics, i went out to take pics of mine, since i knew that mine has the white trim.
lo and behold, the newer front bunk door is just like yours, lacking the white trim that my rear bunk door has.
but i've never had any tears so that's why i probably never noticed it.
i'll load up my pics as soon as i can, of both doors.

The three bunks on my 2012 Shamrock 233S have the white gasket on trimming the edges and corners. This seems to work well.

Here are pics from my phone. I'm camping so I hope this works.
