Side Mirrors needed for towing 23IKSS?
Hello,
I tried a search on this subject under Roo | Shamrock and could not find what I was looking for. So please pardon me if this is a tired subject.
Do I need extended side mirrors for towing a 23IKSS? My local dealer told me sometimes you do and sometimes you don't and you will not know for sure until you back the truck up to the trailer.
Since I ordered mine, I do not want to be forced to buy whatever side mirrors they have in stock t the time I go to pick up my trailer.
So what is the consensus? Did you all buy extended side mirrors or are they not needed?
I was looking at these for my Avalanche.
If it helps with a recommendation, I was also planning on getting the rear view camera that could be used for backup and for driving, like a rear view mirror.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Ron

I used a set just like that on my Silverado 1/2-ton with our first trailer. When we moved up and had to buy a new truck to tow the 5er, I made sure that it had the factory pull-out towing mirrors. But those did great on my Silverado and really made it much better when towing. In addition, those snap on the stock mirrors very tightly, so I never noticed any vibration or distortion. In fact, I usually left mine on even when I wasn't towing. When I parked in a lot, I just folded the mirrors in manually...but that's a personal preference.
I highly recommend towing mirrors for better visibility and especially recommend that type.

If you don't have factory tow mirrors, you will need to buy an add on pair. It is not possible to see overtaking vehicles without them and they make backing the trailer much easier.
I bought a pair from my dealer when we bought out 23ikss. They aren't identical to yours but similar. They have a set screw arrangement to eliminate vibration.
Can't give you the brand because they are in the camper stored until spring.

Ron, you DEFINITELY need these, as I also have an Avalanche to pull my Roo. And mine is the narrower older 7'6" width Roo, while yours is 8' wide.
I got the CIPA ones for the Avy, on Ebay. They work great.

X2 on the CIPA brand mirrors. I ordered from Realtruck.com. They are custom made for your vehicle. Don't slip and no vibration.
On another subject don't forget to purchase the second year Forest River warranty when your RV comes in. Outstanding value that many dealers neglect to tell buyers about. Congrats on the new RV.

X3 on the CIPA's. Had them for my Silverado 1500. Have the factory tow mirrors on the 2500HD.

You will be disappointed with those strap on mirrors as they bounce around like crazy.
I got some pull outs for my Xterra from 1A Auto. Well worth the $. Only downside is that the pass side whistles a bit at a certain speed. I just turn up the radio.

Another vote for Cipa mirrors on my Silverado. Got in a hurry on one trip & couldn't figure out why I couldn't see around the Roo very well, then I realized that I had forgot to put on the mirrors. They do make a real difference. Haven't done that again!

I used CIPA on my Chevy Suburban but when I bought my fiver and a newer 2500HD I needed the larger pull out mirrors. I got mine from 1A Auto as well.

I use CIPA as well. Also 23IKSS and 2015 Silverado. Used CIPAs on Tahoe and Suburban prior.

CIPA mirrors are the best... have used them on my Dodge Van and my Toyota Landcruiser to pull my Shamrock... no bounce and look factory almost... easy to put on and take off when not needed.

My 2010 f150 had stock tow mirrors. I now use Cipa's with my 2015 f150. Cipa's are adequate, but nothing like stock mirrors. I'm thinking of switching out stock mirrors to Fords tow mirrors

Mirrors
Ron, I have a brand new set that I can't use anymore. I had them with my 21' TT and when I bought my 5ver I changed the entire mirror. If you want them I'll sell them to you for$10 plus shipping. Let me know.

Nothing better than following or passing someone who don't have a clue what is behind or beside them because they cannot see anything in their stock mirrors.
Been there done that. I find it amazing they don't crash.
The biggest violators of that I see are people pulling snowmobile trailers (102" wide) with stock mirrors... Talk about flying blind....

Get real tow mirrors:
These are the ones I got and just drilled and added led lighting myself:

I tow my 21dk with them fully extended.

towing mirrors
I have a Roo 21SS and I tow with a 2015 Ford F-150 and I use Longview Custom Towing Mirrors, slip on driver and passenger side, from E-Trailer. They work and look great! I would not tow without them!!!

I had the CIPA on my F150 but decided to change them. I ended up getting these instead and I'm selling the CIPA's on ebay.
