Here is a link to an antenna pointing app for a smartphone. After installing I did need to restart the phone for it to work.

I have a signal meter that simply plugs inline and gives signal strength in LEDs. The problem with these types of signal indicators, is that if there is a cell tower nearby, it will interfere and give a false reading.

I have the Winegard Amp mentioned above. Sure you can use your smartphone or tablet to find out where the antennas are. But I can easily dial in the best direction just by looking at the meter which is on the wall right next to where I stand to turn the antenna. I turn the antenna until I see the highest read out and then set the TV to perform an auto-tune. A few minutes later the stations are ready to watch.

Can't help with the plug in type. I use an app for my iPhone called TV Towers USA. It uses the GPS on the phone and shows a map of the stations in the area. There is an arrow that points on the map and you rotate your phone to point to the stations. Then just line up the RV's antenna with the arrow and you are all set. Works great.
