Slide locks

I just picked up my 2015 Shamrock 23SS, and the technician told me not to install the slide locks as they weren't really necessary. He also said that the movement when driving can eventually push out sections of the trailer where the slide lock sits. As this is first trailer with a slide, I thought is ask the pros... all of you! Thanks!

Mine came with one. Used it for the first year or two until my wife over tightened one time instead of loosening it to remove it & popped the trim loose that it butts against on the slide. Didn't look like too sure of a thing after that. I had to use nailer & renailed the trim back into place. Haven't used it since. Haven't ever had any issue by not using it. There are different slides now on the different models, some with two different types on the same trailer so can't speak for all.

Thanks very much for the link. I wasn't having much luck finding anything on my own.

I use both slide locks on our Roo 23SS. There's a placard to not over-tighten them so I don't. These still have the cords and orange warning tags on them.

My Mini Lite did not come with slide locks. It has Schwintek slides. The motors lock when deenergized.

We had two SOB (some other brand) that had them and we used them always.
Even after the DW forgot to remove them and sheared off the drive pin for the slide!

Ignore that Tech. He’s giving unwise advice. If you have the stickers on the wall and the manufacturer provided the locks, I recommend you use them. Not all slideouts need the locks. They didn’t provide them as decorations.

Same for me, when I owned my 2007 23SS. The slideout is half the length of the trailer, so that accounts for a lot of the total weight.

Had two with our 2007 Jayco. Threw them away first day and sold TT 10 years later with no issues.
