Slide locks?

Found in a cabinet when I got home from the dealer. I think I understand were they go and what they are for but I have not seen anything in regards to people using them. I use them when traveling but I'm scared to death that I will forget them when I get to the camp spot or home and go to open the slide without removing them. My question which is obvious do I need to use them?

We don't but carry them in case something goes south with the slide. Many others don't either.

Ours came with orange tags hanging from them.

so you can't miss them.

Never heard of them. But, again, we are newbies. Should I have had some with our 2016 23IKSS?

Always use slide locks!

I always use my slide locks. I had the large orange tags laminated with plastic at Office Max. I still use the nylon strings with the tags hanging down so I will always notice & remind me to remove the slide locks.

I labeled one with a large "F" and one with a large "R" with a black tip
felt marker with a circle around the "F" & "R" to remind me front & rear
because both have different adjustments.

Our 23ss came with them. Walls have stickers where they are supposed to go. I also hang the tags down so we don't forget them.
When we had our PDI the tech mentioned using them. It was his opinion that if a TT came with them and had a spot for them to go ahead and use them. Our slide is the type with the clutch mechanism, so I suppose it might be possible for it to move out in a sharp turn. I have added a 1/4 x1/4 inch "U" shaped wood strip around the sticker so it's easier to put them in place.
@Daisy, I like your idea of laminating the tags, I'll have to to that.

Strange. We do not have them with our 23 ikss. Did they only come with certain models or should I have them and do not?

I would think that if there's no stickers on the wall indicating where they get placed, then you don't need them.

Depends on the manufacturer of the slide mechanism.

Our 2011 V-Lite came with them but I never used. When we got our 2015 they discontinued using them and I think that may very well be the case for most new FR campers. Later RJD

I have a 2015.5 23ss. Came with then but they never told me about them. When I found them I have been using them but even with the orange tags 2 times now I've almost opened the slide without removing g the locks. Both times it was late at night setting up. I just keep having a vision of the trim braking or a hole in the wall. I guess same fear as driving away with the tv antenna up.

We got them with ours & used them until one time my wife cranked them too tight & popped the decorative face over the slide off. Took my brad nailer & popped it back into place. Can't even tell it was ever popped out. Since then we haven't used them & can't say that we have missed them. Probably why they aren't used much now. Too much damage from over tightening them or forgetting to remove them & then trying to open slide with them in place and causing damage that way.

We have them on our 29QBSS and I use them all the time. The only time I don't install them is the short drive (<5 kms) between house and storage lot.

Never had a problem with them once. As long as you use them all the time, you get used to remembering about them.

My biggest fear for them is at the border. Haven't had an issue yet, but in the back of my mind I'm just waiting for the one border guard who decides to put the slide out without seeing the tags and asking me to remove them first.

we have them and the tech during walk thru indicated that he has fixed many slides that were opened with them in place but never fixed a slide that came out with them not being used.

Another "Always Use Them" for my main slides.

Lippert electric rack slideouts can be broken loose in a turn and open if the motor/gearing clutch gets worn. That clutch is designed to let the motor slip when the slideout is fully open or closed (you can sometimes hear it).

A rough road or railroad track crossing can walk that slide right out unless it is locked in place.

I do not use the one (I made) for the NORCO (wire sprung) wardrobe slideout because that one is only used when the motor/gear assembly fails and needs to be removed to close an open slide for travel to repair it.

When we had them with our first trailer we used them every time. I believe they were supplied for a reason.
