Step on bunk ends from outside?

Okay maybe this is a dumb question. I want to work on my home made pugs this weekend. I need to attach the velcro to the outside of the tent end and stepping on the tent end from the outside is the easiest way To Do It. Any reason why this would be a no no?

Nope, not a dumb question at all. I believe some folks are climbing on the ends every time they attach the pug to the velcro. I don't simply because I'd be afraid of slipping or doing something stupid and ripping the canvas or pulling it from the bunk end frame. (But we're in our 60's)
It's probably ok just doing it to attach the velcro. Just not sure I'd do it all the time. I'd definitely be careful up there!

I only added velcro to the ends...not all the way across...so a step ladder works great. If you go up there i bet its fine but I would wear socks and don't put any tension pulling down on the canvas.

I use a long reach thing from Harbor Freight to put them on.

http://t.harborfreight.com/36-in-pic...ool-61413.html

And a ladder to take them off.

I plan to add a webbing rip cord to each so I can pull them off without the ladder. I will extend the line of Velcro that is sewn onto the PUG by about 4-5 feet. You cannot pull on the PUG itself or it will tear.

X2 for the HF long reach thingy. I use that when I'm taking them off as well. Working well so far.

I don't take my PUGs off; I have the velcro across the top and I remove the clips, coil up the bungees and fold the PUGs in with the canvass. They seem to be fine. I've checked inside after folding up the bunk ends and there seems to be plenty of room around the bunks and I can't find anything binding. Is anyone else doing this? It sure saves a bunch of time setting up; particularly if it's raining.

I may try this tonight with my home made PUG. Turn both fans on and see how it goes. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing... if anyone has experience with this?

I tried this when I installed my homemade PUG. Seemed to work fine. I just made sure it was folded inside the seal area and left the velcro attached. Should make reattaching it easier when camping.

My Super High-Wind PUGs are attached by Velcro glued to the Plywood inside of the Roof-Ends, and have remained so for the past Year, including 5x Camping Trips.
I just make sure that the Bungees are Coiled-Up such that they won't Snag as the Beds are Slid In and Out. I've even tried Tucking the Coil-of-Bungee under the Mattress Sides, as sometimes I have to Pop-Up or Down in rather WINDY Conditions.
My PUGs stay ON all Year.

We generally leave our Super High Wind PUG's in place.

I removed them on one trip this summer because we were having to pack up with the bunk ends a bit damp. Used a short step stool we carry to climb on the bunk end to re-install them. Only issue is to remove the Reflectix window panels prior to climbing up, as it is difficult to prevent crawling over and bending / crushing them.

With the shock cords gathered and hooked together with two carabiners it is pretty easy to prevent jamming in the door gasket or tangling the cords.

We do not leave our thick mattress toppers in place though. Thinking Reflectix, PUG's, and toppers all jammed in to the bunk end might be a bridge too far.
