Yes! I have a Camco version that saved my family and Rig from a miswired situation on Monday this week! Hot on ground! Park owner Is color blind was the excuse.

Yep. I grabbed one on clearance made by trc. Very happy with it but if it fails I will switch to progressive for the lifetime warranty.

Just keep in mind that the plug in line ones can be stolen from your power post.

Yes I realized that right now camping world has the inline surge protector for 74.00 with free locking clasp, and I assume I could lock the box at the site too...

surges are the least of your worries. Get a device that protects against high or low voltage and other issues. Progressive Industries EMS series is the best there is IMO.

We're on our third TRC over an eight year problem and the second one was replaced under warranty while the first one was hard wired and went with our motor home when we traded it. They do protect for low and high voltage and other problems and it has saved us twice over that time. I would get another TRC in a heart beat. But this discussion is much like the one that is had by Ford versus Dodge versus Chevy. What we own is the best and only suitable brand.

Surge is a vague term that can mean many different things. For example, it can be a spike, a low voltage, a high current, a sag, a high voltage, or a low current. Better is to ask about each anomaly.
AC voltage can drop so low that incandescent bulbs dim to 50% intensity. This is perfectly good power for all electronics. And potentially harmful to motorized appliances. At home, your utility will cut off power if that voltage cannot be maintained (to protect motorized appliances). Campgrounds typically have no protection. So some surge protectors cut off power when voltage is too low.
Another anomaly is reversed polarity. Or floating safety ground. Some protectors also detect these anomalies.
A protector locked to a power pedestal may also protect from surges such as lightning. Protectors inside the camper typically do not. This type anomaly requires a low impedance (as short as possible) connection to the pedestal's earth ground. Again, different protectors are for many different anomalies. Best recommendation should discuss which anomalies it protects from AND which anomalies should most concern you.

We have a Progressive Industries inline and happy so far. Lock box is a joke as it is made of plastic. Keep honest people honest thats all. But I guess someone could steal whole power cord if they wanted to.

I use a progressive industries portable unit. I put out my slide and I hang it on the rail underneath then I run my 30 amp extension cord to the pole. I lock it to the underneath of the slide for 2 reasons, the first is to deter people from stealing it, they would have to get under my slide and then cut it off, the second reason is it protects it from the weather.

We have one that came in our starter kit, I have no idea how good it is but we were told, if we don't use it and have an issue, there will be problems with warranty coverage. Same thing with the water pressure regulator. Whether that's true or not, I really don't know, I do know I use it every time we go out.

I use a Camco Defender 30 Amp Surge under/over voltage protector. This unit saved us and the trailer from damage earlier this week. Hot on ground and unsafe electrical work.
I added aircraft cable to both ends and lock it to the power cables and then lock it to the power pedestal or trailer itself .

I would just get a PI and be done, it not only protects surges but handles an array of voltage situations and it has a lifetime guarentee

That is similar to what I got, only the LCD version. It was clearance at CW a few months back. I am really happy with it but I can't argue with the idea of going straight to progressive. I figured if I can get a couple years out of it minimum for 100ish dollars I can always upgrade to progressive when the bank account recovers a little bit from the camper purchase and other accessories. Has the surge, low and high voltage and reverse polarity protection.
