I installed my HW30C the other day in my IKSS. I decided to put in the bathroom cabinet. It was tight because the cord itself didn't give you much leeway for error. I just ordered some plug ends and am going to re-install the unit - I wish I saw those pictures first... The time delay comes preset for 15 seconds and it suggests a change to 136 second if your AC unit does not have a built in time delay. I looked through the AC documentation but did not see if it comes with its own delay. Do any of you know if the Roo units have a time delay built in?

More then likely your stat has a time delay in it only, one thing to remember, if you lose 110v and and your A/C is on, your time delay will not work from the stat. It's fed from the 12 volt side. So if your power went off and started 15 sec later again your Compressor would short cycle on you, because your stat was still calling for cooling, more then likely you would go into LRA on the compressor.Your EMS will protect from that, set the time delay to max mins...

this is basically what I did.

Haha, on this forum, you'll get a lot of arguments about what's the best model WDH, truck, etc. But honestly, you'll be hard pressed to get a better protector than a Progressive Industries Electrical Management System. More expensive than surge protectors, but has a lifetime warranty and covers you for so much more than just surges. Hared wired or removable, that's your choise. You will be fine with a 30 AMP model, unless you want to upgrade in the future.

Can't beat the Progressive Industries emc. Many have done the hardwired, like me. I pulled the power panel and mounted it to that. Big concern is the 30 amp cord. Very thick and stiff. Some like the portable. Gives you more options when you resell your camper. Dealer is not going to give you anything for mods. I like the HW display inside. Nice to see what's going on. especially as you power on equipment inside you can watch the amperage creep up. So when it says 26 amps and you're about to push that microwave button, you can think twice.

So this would be a good choice?

Campgrounds are generally safe, but are these things high theft items? Is it possibly to use the portable version inside the trailers utility area, rather than at the power post?

The portable unit is a good option as it can be used as a hardwired unit. The hardwired unit installed with plugs also gives you the option to remove it or bypass it if the need arises. I purchased the hardwired unit EMS HW30. It is a little over 200 dollars and install wasn't bad - about an hour and a half.
