Sway bars on hitch every time??
Evening all, hope all is well. First snow tonight here.
I have a short trip tomorrow with the camper. Do I need to use the sway bars/weight distribution bars?

Whats your "short tow" If I was just moving a few miles down the road, not involving interstate or high cross winds than sure as long as the tongue weight is not lifting the front wheels. If you have a limited amount of towing experience......then but them on...

Why take a chance? I always put them on. It's only 5 minutes more.

Howdy neighbor,
Be safe towing in the snow!
Think a properly match wdh with sway control would be a good idea .

Make it a practice that if you put the trailer tongue on the hitch ball, HOOK EVERYTHING UP! Brakes, sway bars, torsion bars, brake cable, etc. just like you were going to tow for hundreds of miles in a cross wind. It only takes a few feet in certain conditions to have to make emergency moves while towing or otherwise. NEVER TAKE A CHANCE when you could have possibly done something or attached something to lessen the consequences. You'll live longer that way.

As my Dad always said...better to have 'em and not need 'em than to need 'em and not have 'em.
Though we pull a 5th wheel now, I would NEVER pull a TT without all of the safety features. It's just not worth it.

Always do the wd bars. Only use the sway bar if windy, or going over 40mph/highway.

I don't know how short his trip was today, but the snow is already 10" deep here in northern Illinois!!!
Last thing I'd want to be doing here today is towing a trailer, with or without a wdh.

I agree with Old Coot. If you tow, use everything you've got to make sure it's a safe trip.

In that type of weather condition it is a must. Only time I do not use is my 5 miles to the camp ground and never get above 35mph. I also use a different ball mount. Later RJD

YES, the only thing holding you hitch ball at the correct angle is a small adjustment bolt under the hitch. A weight distribution hitch is not designed to be used without being fully connected. If you do not want to use bars get a ball hitch only with the correct weight rating.

Plato, wasn't bad in the snow. Was a total pain to back the rig into the spot at the storage place when you can't see the lines.
