Yes indeed I do use a WDH!
The Ram can take a tongue weight of 500lbs without a WDH.
My Roo has a loaded tongue weight of 560lbs to 590lbs depending how I load it.
I am using a 1000/10000 E2 hitch.
It maybe over kill but it works great.

Sorry let me correct my last statement I spoke from memory.
It is a good thing I wasn't on a Ram forum or I would have been crucified.
After checking my facts here are the numbers, and this is for a 2011 Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4, I believe you have an SLT so your numbers will differ.
A 2011 Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4 has:
- a class III hitch max of 500lbs without a WDH
- a class IV hitch max of 1045lbs without a WDH
I have a trailer tongue weight of between 590lbs and 650lbs (loaded) and I have a class IV hitch, so by that you would think no WDH is required.
BUT
My trailer weighs 5,390lbs (loaded) and my Ram specs and manual suggest a WDH for any trailer over 5,000lbs
So I am running with a 1000/10000 E2 hitch.
