I just used 2" and 1 1/2" pvc pipe. Drilled a series of holes in the smaller pipe and one hole in the bigger.......used a couple of hitch pins to hold it to the right height. Use a couple of rachet straps over the end of the awning tube hooked to a screw in anchor to the ground. Big wind comes up.....takes me about 45 seconds to unhook the straps....hit the button and roll the awning in. Pipe and hitch pins....about 20 bucks total.

How do you hook them to the awning roller itself, like to see a picture if you have time to post one also.....

My buddy lost his awning. Left it out over night with a beautiful evening and in the middle of the night a storm popped up and ripped it clean off the trailer..... Now he ties it down and puts it in at bedtime.

Nope. I run it out, and leave it out 99% of the time. If a wind storm blows in, then I'll reef it in, but other than that I leave it out.

It dumps automatically just like its supposed to in the rain.

The site team has moved many of the off-topic posts concerning the awning brackets to the thread that OC has on them, where it has a lot more information.

If you were involved in that conversation in this thread, then you can find it at this link now:

[vc pipe.

Will try to get some pics. I took a 4" piece of 4" pvc pipe and cut it lengthwise and used it as a saddle and attached it to the top of the 1 1/2"
The awning tube sits right in the saddle.

I have lost two awnings due to winds out of no wear, I suggest to tie them down during the day and roll them up before you go to bed.
The last one that was damage was in Ocean MD about 4 years ago, a bad storm came up about 1:00 am it rain so hard the awning could not empty fast enough
And the weight of the water and the wind bent the side arms so in the am I had to cut the awning free from the camper and that was our first night on vacation.
$1,300 dollars later and a new lesson learn for the second time.....never again.
By the way the awning was tilted to one side.

I'm sold, where/how much is a set? We just bought a 2015 Roo 21SS and this looks like a good starter mod...
By the way, how do you adjust the awning to allow rain to drain off? Was playing with the awning today and have no idea what to adjust..

Thanks,

Jim

I'll post back on how they work.

Power Awning Tie Down System
Sure thing that will work, but by the picture your awnings are not electrical. I used to do the samething for years. Never had a problem. your support arms are like 4x's stronger. IMO you do not need poles with that system in the picture, If you want to make it stronger, just release the arms and tent stake them and then tie it down with rope or anything straps or such. Electric awnings are just pure garbage IMO only..Is that a electrical awning with full arms? never saw that before in my travels. It also looks like you have flapper stoppers on them. You can not do that with the electrical without stretching the material downward.

You do have a power awning and not a manual?

Yes dometic 9100 series I believe it is. Got the camper at Tom Johnson Speedway and that's where the tech said these kind shouldn't be tied down.

We have a light weight metal electric awning. Push a button in the camper and it rolls out or in.
Anyhow, used it this weekend with lots of rain and they worked great. Had awning open with one side lower than the other. Only advice would be to drill hole in pipe cap on the button pole or it fills up with rain water.
Bought pvc pipe and cap at HD. Pvc saddle on Amazon and lock pin at Tractor Supply.

Although not self-storing, I really like the link that 'DaveandSue' as well as 'ParrishCamper' linked to. Definitely putting this on the project list

I think I could even do this without help from my DH

Since I'm also looking into options for a screen room under our awning, this project will be a necessity.

Love this forum!
