Tires

I have a 05 trailblazer with Firestone destination tires they have more like a passenger car tread on them, I'm still getting a little bit of sway, I've been told to get a set of Firestone A/T tires more aggressive tire made for more off road/rugged. Will this help with the sway of the trailer and also there's not much bounce but will bounce produce sway too? Any suggestions would be great, I'm trying to trade my trailblazer but dealers don't want to work with me and give me a decent amount. Thanks

First off - what Shamrock do you have?

I'm not sure that P-rated A/T's help with towing stability the way LT tires will.

You can get All-Terrain in either P or LT and I would go with LT . They provide more stability than the P's I have had when towing.

The drawback is that the ride quality is decreased due to the reinforced design of the tires. Its an easy trade-off for me.

LT tires come in load range C, D & E. Your wheels are limited to the tires they can handle so check your rims for their inflation maximums. Even if you can, don't automatically go with E's unless you want to shake out your fillings. LT-C tires work well for me with my current SUV.

first, what WDH are you using?
second, a loaded 233S is putting your TB at its max, especially with the TB loaded with passengers and cargo.

Tires don't cause sway. What tires do is cause a mushy jello feeling. I have that with my stock Goodyear Wrangler ST P225/75R16. I currently switch to my winter tires, Firestone Winterforce P245/70R16 when I tow.

Sway is caused by poor load distribution and improper setup of the WDH. Either way, I have no sway.

Have you scaled your setup? What WDH do you have? Do you have any heavy items behind the rear axle or hanging off the bumper?

I have a WDH made by camco , fairly cheap one, I have set it up to where there's no more than a half inch of lift or sag in front or rear fenders, sway control is snug, i know it's at it's max, another question how to people tow 6100 lbs with a trailblazer with just different gears this seems very unstable at 5100?

It's more like the camper is pushing the truck around that's what I mean by sway the trailer just pushes the truck with the wind

some more info about your TB would help.
how many ride in it while towing?
what year is it and which engine? is it the extended TB?

as was said, pulling a full-height TT with a short wheelbase TV and a cheap WDH, will not be the best of setups.

Agree tires that are not inflated to carry the load will not cause the sway, but they will sure magnify the sway after it starts.

What WDH do you have, it's a 05 trailblazer swb 4x4 with 3.42 gears in it I know I'm over weight with 2 adults and two kids, thought I could make it through this year with it I stole the camper for 17,000 brand new so hard to say no

Good Morning!

I have the Reese Dual Cam. It is a lil tricky to setup and adjust. And it makes its pops and grinds. But, no issues.

I did have a tire thread, looking for suggestions. Of course, many people say LT, but the choices are slim in the size I am looking for. But, going from a lightweight tire to a heavier tire made a difference.

Last year, I wanted to get back into camping after a long hiatus due to finances. I came across my Liberty Diesel and rented a 24 foot Amerilite 24BH. I had he stock Jello tires and a standard WDH. Sway was not a problem, but the push/pull from trucks made my bunghole pucker every time I saw one coming. The standard WDH didn't help prevent the sway as the truck passed and the Jello tires just amplified the uneasy feeling. Fast forward to now, 3' shorter unit, 6" wider, and just as heavy, and no issues. Feel a very slight push/pull when trucks pass, but nothing like before. And I tow at 55 to 60, depending on road conditions.

Thank you for your help, I think most of it is that it's too much weight for the truck and way too much hitch weight of about 700 lbs with tanks full and battery,

That is about my tongue weight. It may just be the vehicle design too. I do have air bags. I don't need much air in them but I use them to level off.

Yeah that's the thing my vehicle is 100% level when hooked up and weight dist set up, maybe I have to much weight transferred to the front the nose cropped a half an inch from stock and the rear lowered about a half inch if I drop a chain the measurements are way off
