trailer tongue and jack cover

Has anybody used something like this to protect the trailer tongue and jack? I spray my tongue with silicone to make it easier to work but thought something like this might be nice to keep it out of the weather. Or is that a bad idea.

Yeah I saw where people do that but I am more concerned with keeping water off the coupler.

I just bought a cheap grill cover with Velcro. I can cover the tongue, jack, hookups, battery and propane tanks / covers from weather, UV, etc

Good idea. I use a cover on jack with plastic bag underneath and cover the coupler as well.

Looks good G, It's covering the hitch, the jack and a break-away battery. I don't have the battery there, don't care about covering the latch mechanism, but covering the tongue jack has to be a wise choice. I modified a Wave8 (heater) cover that I had ... I'm weird that I like to repurpose things if it looks and function okay.

My latch mechanism on my Roo has always been sticky so that's really my main reason. Never had a problem with my tongue jack but I can see why to cover it. I spray the latch with silicone and that helps some but thought maybe covering it would be even better on my new camper. I'm moving to a Grand Design Imagine 2800BH soon so already started looking for things and this was on my list. I'm also changing my storage to a covered spot so that should help too.

I like the repurpose idea just don't have anything. Saw where somebody got a grill cover and his wife used it to make a jack cover and separate tongue cover but my wife doesn't have the time with being a teacher. She's doing school work even right now. Works way harder after hours than she should.

What do others do for maintenance on the tongue latch?

So, I have never had it stick other than the normal bind when the truck might be pulling or pushing and not "free". I would say this is WW error. If I can, I like to unhitch with the truck in neutral, if on flat ground, but on grades it can be tricky.

I wiped a little grease inside the ball pocket and on the latch thingy from the bottom side; risking the occasional mess. It does spend most of its life under cover (canopy) but just spend a month outside. I greased it when I noticed wear on the new hitch / ball after a long trip. A little grease makes coupling / uncoupling smoother.

Most of the time when people have a hard time to unhitch its because when they park their rig they were backing up so the pressure is on the back part of the hitch. I always stop block the tires on the trailer then just put truck in neutral and then park so the truck has no pressure on the back part of hitch. sometimes I have to put in drive then park , it all depends on the ground and yes always grease the ball
