Urgent need advice
We are doing the pdi on our trailer right now. They left the bunk ends out overnight but not put together so water pooled on them all night while it was raining and eventually made its way inside one of the bunks and the mattress is soaking wet. Would you leave the trailer? Demand a new mattress and still take the trailer or just hope the mattress dries well and doesnt end up moldy?

Certainly would not take the mattresses under no circumstances. They are soaked!
If by chance you do take the trailer get it in writing with an expected date of new mattresses.
When you think of it, the dealer was that careless to leave the bunks out side in the rain.
How bad do you want the trailer NOW.
John.

As a minimum I would require a brand new mattress, My concern would be the water that got into the bunk. Is it going to cause the wood to swell? Remember you are buying new and should not be buying their mistakes.

I would have them clean up the water. Take the trailer and demand a new mattress.

I would not take the unit... They got it all flooded and now you will be left with the bag? I think not!
The wood may dry just fine but I would want a new mattress at minimum. No clue what might grow in it or the damage that might be done.

I've gotten water on the bunks when washing the canvas with the tent material laying flat. It can work through the window zippers. I just let it dry and no long term harm.
Wouldn't hurt to ask for a new mattress, especially since they have the heating elements in them, but either way just let it dry & you should be fine.

I agree... I am not so much worried about the pop out. But the matress may "dry" but will it be the same. Once you take the trailer as is with the promise of a new mattress you are at the mercy of the dealer.. You leave and say no you do not get my money before I get a new mattress you will have a new mattress today.. See the cannibalizing trailer thread for further.. LOL

Urgent need advice
I'm sorry. Keep in mind, from what I read on here, it can take months to get parts. It took us a two months to get a new refrigerator drawer that was broken.

X2 the last two sentences of doc73 post. parts time is not an issue when you are going to have to live with a trailer for years.

An after thought, and already hit above maybe?? BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THIS WATER IN WRITING! I would hate to see something creep up in the future, like delamination or wood rot and you are left with the warranty denial due to negligence from water damage. Make sure you have something on the dealerships letter head saying they let the bunk ends get soaked and will be responsible for any damage. Might be getting over board but hey, this is YOUR hard earned cash that they were negligent with.

It all depends on "how wet" it all got, like if the mattress is saturated, take the camper, dry out the mattress and bunk and have them order you a new one, then you can use it while ordered, I wouldn't let that stop me from getting the camper. If everything else is in order I will just have them write it out that if there was any problems with this issue they would take care of it which they're obligated to anyway under warranty.
Just make sure you get the extended warranty he should be around $150 for the second year

They'll pull the mattresses out of another unit. Dry those and stick it with that units new owner. Then that poor owner will end up with mattresses that smell and heaters that fail prematurely.

New mattress and document the water damage. In writing and pictures. Myself I would tell them I want a different unit.

That damage will be noticed when you trade and it will cost you trade-in money. You should be compensated now. Pick an accessory you want from their store and demand it.

I'm happy it is working out for you. Short of demanding another unit I think you are taking the right steps. This is what the forum is good for thinking of the things we may not have considered.
