Using LED T.V. as door for tube T.V. shelf
Installed this 24" L.E.D. T.V. last night. I will have to report back in a few weeks to see if it is strong enough to hold it. The T.V. normally will rest on the front of the shelf, so there is no weight on the mount most of the time. When the T.V. is swung out, it seems very solid and secure. This will allow for putting stuff on the shelf and having the clean look of the T.V. in front. The T.V. only weighs 11lbs. and is 22.6" × 15.0" × 1.9". I used this mount, VANGUARD VM-432C R, but upon install quickly realized that a mount with a center pivot would be better so you have more flexibility on positioning the T.V. on the shelf. I used a 1X4 to mount the bracket too; it is screwed down to the shelf and at an angle on top so it gets the wall and the ceiling with 3" screws. I still have to come up with something to hold the T.V. from swinging out in travel, which I already have some ideas.
I debated a long time on how to mount it so it would have enough strength to hold it. The other option was to take out the paneling inside the closet and beef up the wall. I will now only do this if the 1X4 looks to be failing. We have a trip this weekend, so we’ll see if it ends up on the floor……

Right at the corner where the wood panelling around the fridge meets the wall, there is a "structural member" in there. I secured my T.V. swing arm there with some big screws. The trailer has been over and down some terrible roads (called highways here in B.C.) and it is still as stable as ever. Difference with mine is I have the T.V. folded right up against the wall. I cut some pieces of my kids old pool noodles, cut notches into them and support the T.V. on them when travelling. I also use a small bungee cord to hold it in place on the wall while travelling. This still leaves lots of room to keep stuff on the shelf while we are travelling, and suprisingly, none of it has ever come off the shelf.

First trip with it is in the books and everything worked as it should. I ended up mounting three magnets to the shelf and used double sided tape to tape metal to the T.V. Seems to hold it in place well. I just bought the magnets at Wal-mart, usually used for cabinet doors. I may end up with a nylon strap for travel as a back-up, but for now, I'll leave it as is.
