Watch Out For Wasps etc..

Late in the season I know but getting the shamrock ready for our first trip yesterday. I opened the water heater door to screw the rod back in and there was some mean looking wasps in there mad at me for disturbing their afternoon nap. Don't know if it's been posted about before, but be careful opening up some of these things for the first time after it's been parked awhile. Oh and I did out run them😀

Yep, I always open them up slowly to bang on them prior to see if anything comes out. However I now use those mud dauber screens and that seems to work really good.

Also be careful opening the lid on the campground shorepower pole. The nasty little critters like to take up housekeeping in there also. Personal experience speaking.

Brake cleaner works amazingly well to kill them. I've hit them in mid-air and they drop instantly. It shoots out a stream a good distance so you can stay far enough away to not get attacked as well.

You can find it at Wal-Mart or pretty much any auto store for a few bucks.

I glued fiberglass screen on the insides of all vents and used the metal pre-made screen on the furnace vent. Now some mud-dauber somethings filled all screw holes on my helper handle by the door with mud nests... took a small screw driver and an air hose to blow all that crap out.

X4 on the screens! Had them on my first TT, took them off and put them on the trade-up TT. Never had a problem with the vents.

I think brake cleaner fluid is Duct Tape liquid form. It cleans just about anything plus killing wasps.

Only thing I can recall was a better all purpose cleaner was the old MEK that some of us old timers remember.

Yep - Big Brother at his best. It was used in the Air Force when I was in (1960-1964) and commercial aviation. It did dry your hands, but was great stuff.

Don't let Uncle Sam know you still got some.

I read where you can buy a flea collar and put it in your storage area to keep bees from making nests. Try them there too...worth a try.

A few months back I went over to the storage facility to scoop up the Roo for a weekend trip. As I was connecting things to the hitch, I noticed quite a few wasps flying around.

The wasps decided to take up residency by building a good size nest up under my propane tank cover. Fortunately, I keep some Raid in the RV.

While you are "wasp proofing", don't forget the ac cover on top. They love to build nests down the fan blades. VOE! Covered the entire area between the compressor and the evaporator as well as the vent slots in the cover.

Yeah I had a popup before this and dirt daubers built a few big nests down one blade. I turned on th AC and thought the roof was gonna shake off. They didn't have the decency to build on all blades and keep it balanced:-)

That's what the dude told me at the walk through when showing me about the valve to pull the antifreeze in with then he opened up the water heater access and showed the electric switch and told me to take the rod out and set it on that little ledge till I got ready to Dewinterize it.
