Water Heater making funny popping sound

Need some help figuring out my water heater issue. We camped an entire week on 30 amp service and things seemed fine. Got home and plugged into my garage 15 amp to unload and clean. Turned on the water heater for hot water (electric) Now every once in a while during the cleaning and running the hot water, I was hearing a pop coming from the washroom and I ignored it thinking it was an outdoor noise but then I got an odor of possibly something tripping a wire. I went out and stuck my head in the water heater compartment and it was strong. I immediately turned off the water heater and have no clue what to do. TYIA

Are you saying that there was a burnt electric odor coming from the RV's water heater access door?

Was there any water in the compartment when you opened it?

I hate to sound insensitive but if you truly "have no clue what to do" (your words) and something smells burnt... STOP using your camper and PLEASE get it checked by someone qualified as soon as possible.

We can all guess... but that's the best it is going to be... a GUESS!

Don't put yourself (anyone else) or your camper in jeopardy.

Thank you for your response. The (electric) water heater stopped working but continued to operate on LP. After an extensive inspection of all operating systems, we found the culprit. (See pic) The wire was replaced and was protected using a flexible conduit. Click image for larger version
