for one, the 233S is not a "little" trailer. and you got ripped off for what you paid.
i paid $490 for my Equal-i-zer and Prodigy with free shipping. my dealer installed the WDH for free.

you paid more than that for an inferior, friction sway bar WDH, which isn't in the same class as the Equalizer or Reese Dual-Cam.

i pull a similar weight/length trailer with basically the same vehicle, the GMT900 platform Avalanche(the same platform as the Suburban except with a truck bed).

no way i would pull my trailer without an Equalizer or Reese D-C.
you're making the right choice for you and your family. don't let the service guy bully you. there's no way he can force you to buy the WDH from them, before you can get the trailer.
if you lived close, you could still tow it on a plain hitch ball, just to get it home.

My dealer charges an hours labour to install a WD hitch which is fair IMO. I think your dealer's parts guy is a piece of work and I would for sure talk to someone higher in the food chain given you are buying a new trailer. WHen we bought ours they gave us 20% anything in the store that day but I still paid the 1 hr labour on the install. Obviously mileage varies but the trend here seems to be you dealer is not trying to be your friend thats for sure while most dealers seem to want us customers back.

I agree, I'd be happy to pay an hourly labor charge, that is fair. My husband is going to call today about the labor charges, raise a stink, and we'll get it online.

We are now very concern about future service issues.

I stand correct by everyone.

Then install the link plates when you get there, will take a half hour at most. Use 4 washers and put the L bracket in the middle and do adjustments when you get home. Once you sign the paperwork and hand over the money they can't stop you from doing that.

Money and signing was done weeks ago. I already have the title and made our first payment. It's just there right now in storage.

I'm so curious how they treat others with WDH's that were used previously. Do they tell them they have to charge them more because they didn't buy it from them?

What is the name of the dealership you bought your 233s from? I would check the Bad Dealers sub forum here on FRF to see if others have commented on them before. I agree with others who have said to go to the top with a complaint. Any store/dealership owner or GM with any business sense would go out of their way to make a customer who just spent thousands happy. If you show them the cost of the hitch at other retail stores and ask them to match the price and include free installation for the hassle and headaches caused by the crap the parts manager has put you through you might be surprised. Good luck and keep us posted on the final outcome.

I did check on that forum for them and they weren't listed. The sale itself was extremely smooth, I should have known something would go crazy! LOL

If it is already your trailer then go install the link plates. I guess I'm not understanding your problem. Are you saying that they won't give you access to your trailer?

They will not allow me to hook up the Equalizer to my trailer on their property if I didn't purchase the Equalizer from them. If I were to buy it from them, they would charge 150.00 for installation.

If I didn't buy from them and only wanted them to install it on their property, I would be charge MORE than 150.00 because I didn't buy it from them.

I'm not sure what plates you're talking about, but according to them, I'm not allowed to do any installation on their property.

The link plates are what get installed on the trailer A frame. Only tools needed are a tape measure and a couple of adjustable wrenches. Doesn't take very long.

This is all you need to do 'on their property'. You are getting misinformation from someone at the dealership. Your need to talk to someone else there. It is your trailer. If you want to go install the link plates, just go do it.

RVW's website features the 4-point Equalizer on the first page of its online parts store, not the 2-point.

your 233S has a heavier hitch weight than my 23SS, so go with the 1000/10,000 model.
www.pplmotorhomes.com

this is where i bougfht my 1000/10K 4 way equalizer hitch, paid about 450.00 maybe if i remember right.

Ibrjet, i apologize.

i didn't see that you also had an Equalizer.
i was reacting to your description, "When I had my first trailer, I paid $660 for brake controller installed, WDH and sway bar all installed."

when you said "sway bar", i thought you were talking about WDH with a friction anti-sway bar, since the Equalizer doesn't have a sway bar.

$150.00 to install??? that sure sounds like a rip off to me, I installed my own Eqaulizer hitch, it only takes about 30 minutes to attach the plates/L brackets to the trailer and set up the shank rise/drop. Will they atleast install the ball on the shank for free? that is the only real problem you will have, once the ball is installed the rest is a piece of cake.

I bought mine at PPL motorhomes they installed the ball for free, then after I measured the trailer hitch hight, i went home and set up the hitch shank and then all you need to do is bolt the L brackets to the A Frame and away tou go..went back to the other dealer who we bought the trailer from and brought her home. they had no problem at all letting me set it up on there lot...your dealer just wants the $$$$.. Bottom Line.

My friend was going to torgue everything for us at his shop. I was going to have everything assembled and ready to go for pick up, I just need to attach it to the trailer and adjust it.

I was. I have an equalizer now with my 2nd trailer.

My first trailer was 5000lbs and the sway bar did fine. I knew nothing about nothing back then and do not feel in the least that I was taken advantage of by the dealer. I priced out every out everything they sold me and the installation for everything ran about $200. Their tech spent a lot of time with me explaining the brake controller, how to set it correctly, practiced with me hitching and unhitching. Adjusting the WDH. Hooked up hot wire to the 7 pin. I feel the education I got was well worth the money.

Remember, first trailer, knew nothing. Second trailer now, know more.

Well, my hubby talked to the dealership and he's happy with what they offered, I didn't ask what that is because I just want to go camping! I do know we'll be getting a Husky Centerline instead of the Equalizer - which is what he wanted but the cost was too much. So their deal must have been a good one.

Again thank you.

Glad it worked out for you and your husband - he must have kept his cool -
I know nothing about the Husky Centerline but I hope it works as good if not better then the equalizer does.

lbrjet - I apologize as well - was looking at what bikendan saw as well.
- having someone show you the in's and out's for the first time does make a world of diffrence - I have to agree with you there.

Hockeytownmom,

Don't give high jacking this thread a second thought. When I originally posted, I knew nothing about WDHs. Now I know a lot more and am going in the right direction. The way I look at it, if anyone learned a little more than before then this thread is a success.

Dave

I just purchased a used Equalizer 1000/10000 4 point last night for $140.00 from a guy who just sold his TT. Everything looks good but would like to know if there is anything I should look at real carefully. The person I bought it from told me to have it checked out if that would make me feel better and if anything was broken he would give me my money back. I think I got a good deal.
