Well, I called our dealership and with the WDH and Prodigy (I don't know which one) it's 890.00 out the door, I think he waived tax b/c I told him we couldn't afford that. IF we bought one and wanted to install it when we pick up the trailer, we would not be able to do it on their property. Or they would install but charge more for labor since we didn't buy it there. So I need to talk with dh.

that is way High IMO - the dealership is trying to rope you into to buying it from them which is BS if you ask me - that is my opinion on that one - I would be pissed if they told me I couldnt install it there especially if I bought a brand new camper from them. you could just get a 2 5/16 ball and install on a shank and drive it to the nearest parking lot to install the WDH yourself which is what I was going to do but since I am getting a deal for the install no need to do that now.
If you need a copy of my invoice showing what I am paying for my Equilizer you can see for yourself.

the Prodigy is the brake controller which if you look at camping world you can get a price from them $139 mormal price - $119 presidents club sale - make sure if you buy it from anyone it is the "P2" which is the latest prodigy. I have the older style which I bought last year before the P2 came out.

This is just such crap. I don't even think they will allow me to hook the equalizer to the tailer (the clamps), so that makes it impossible to even tow to another lot, right?

here is the kicker - if you get an equalizer - it takes a special socket to install the ball to the hitch head - in which case I am purchasing it for $49 from my dealer as a just in case I ever need it.

you could tow it with a ball and shank but not fast and not too far IMO - really depends on how the camper sits on the tow vehicle without the WDH. Did you have a WDH on the popup or just a regular hitch?

who at the dealership are you talking with? if you are talking to some peon - I would be calling and talking to someone higher up or your sales guy and see what the deal is - something doesnt add up though - almost seems like they are trying to back you into a corner to purchase from them

is there a road next to dealership that isnt so busy that you could off the property to install the hitch?

If we bought everything online, WDH, ball, and Prodigy it would cost less than 600.00. They are off a pretty busy road and I don't think there's an empty parking lot close. I'm not sure what we're going to do. Thanks for your help, I'll let you know what you decide.

Did you buy yours from a dealer with install?

at first I was going to let them install it and then I asked if it was ok for me to install the day I picked up - an hour later he sent me an email saying that he would rather install it and gave me a very sweet deal that I couldnt refuse
I bought the Equalizer, Hitch Ball, 7" drop shank, Ball Socket, sway jacket's, Extra Pin Kit, Equalizer Grease for $648.55 with tax and without install or shipping since I am picking it up at the dealership
i think they install it for like $150 which I got for less
The guy I am dealing with (Dane) at Tropical RV has taken care of me and is very responsive - I couldnt have asked for a better person to deal with - hopefully they are as responsive on the service side - which from a few posts I have seen he is.

If you want a copy of my invoice send me your email and I will forward it to you - maybe if you had a copy of one your dealership might think twice or you could call Dane and see what he could do for you like sending the ball already installed on the Hitch Head -

hockeytownmom, i bought my Equalizer and Prodigy from RVW. the dealer we bought our 23SS from, installed it for free. i installed the Prodigy myself, because it's so easy.
i would tell the dealer that if they want to complete the sale, that you want the Equalizer you buy from RVW, to be installed for free or at a nominal cost.

RVW has the Prodigy for under $100 and the Equalizer for around $460. you could pay $50 for the installation and still be ahead.

i think you'll be fine with the normal shank that comes with the Equalizer. i have an '07 Avalanche, which the same vehicle as the '07 Suburban and i am using the normal shank.

The sale has been complete for weeks now. I don't understand why I can't hook it up myself, it's just clamping it onto the tongue. What happens if someone already owns an Equalizer? Can they not hook up their trailers themself?

also so you know the reason why I am using a 7" drop shank is because I am lifted 6" and running 35" tires.

I think RVW also offers free shipping

bikendan might be on to something with running the regular shank that comes with the kit - if I am not mistaken the avalanche and the suburban are on the same chassis so you may not have to buy a diffrent shank - like stated above

the sale really isnt completed until you take delivery and you have signed on the dotted line.

I would call someone higher up at the dealership if it was me until you get satisfaction - most places want to stay in business - if this dealership wants to keep there customer's happy and return business they should help you - I also realize they are in business to make money but they dont have to make a killing off of every customer that walks thru the door and purchases from them.

who at the dealership told you that you couldnt install the hitch - sales person or
